I... I had... strong feelings for a mediocre little Mauser 1914 in .32ACP at the show today.
I may have to go back for it.
Among other contenders for my hard-earned dollar...
One guy had new S&W M&P-15/22's for $435 OTD. Another had a bunch of 2nd gen po-po trade-in Glock 22s for $350 cash. If the latter had been G17s or G19s, I might have bit, just to have a beater gun, although that would have necessitated trying to score an Advantage Arms .22 upper, too.
If I bought a G22 w/no finger grooves, I wonder if I could find someone with a G19 who'd want to trade? I need a .40 like I need a hole in my head...
Me, I just want to find a nice M4 bayonet and a couplea M1 carbine mags. Mostly I'm along as a negotiatior in case Partner finds something he can't live without.
ReplyDeleteThe Colt Police Positive for $349 had my attention. Do want.
ReplyDeleteS&W 15/22 for $435? I assume that includes tax. A local Big-Box sporting goods chain had 15/22's for $399, plus the 6% Iowa sales tax brought it to $423 out the door for mine, a couple months ago. Just for comparison.
ReplyDeleteThe M&P .22LR is a really nifty carbine. Got one the other day, $400 OTD, 250 rounds downrange, no malfs, 3 inch groups at 50y, iron sights. Use good ammo..

ReplyDeleteI said "OTD". :)
A neighbor of mine living South Of The Caribbean has one Mauser like that. He brought the gun with him from Spain in the 1950's and it was used by a relative during the Spanish Civil War. It has a special memory for me since it was the first time anybody acknowledged that I knew something about guns and he brought it to me so I can repair it. It only needed a good cleaning and oiling and it went back to shoot great.
ReplyDeleteI've been jonesing for a 19 to play with.. Take cash?
ReplyDeleteAs grim as the economy looks, a variety of calibers is desirable. You never know what you may find when you need ammo - and the local Bentonville Behemoth now has two boxes of .357 SIG.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking about buying them just to have trade bait.

OTD=out the door
ReplyDeleteThe MP15/22s are super hot in Indiana right now. "Flying off the shelves".
Dealers are getting $30 to $60 than states.
Shootin' Buddy
You could get the G22 and a 9mm drop in for it, ooooh and .357 Sig barrel for lots of shooty goodness.

Toring word: prehab, what I do when I go to the bar.
Last show I was at I was doing fine, until my "friend" called me over to see a guy with a Colt Army Special in 32-20. Had a kinda crappy nickle job, but for $250? MINE!!! S/N - 445xxx with a "4" below the serial.
ReplyDeletethis weekend I discovered that a S&W M&P .22lr will in fact function pretty dang well without an extractor. I only noticed because it wouldn't extract a dud round of bulk Federal.
ReplyDeleteI gotta remember to call up Smith & Wesson and see if I get to order up one or if they want the bolt back or what.
