From the "I don't get it" files...

I'm still wondering just what kind of a moron steals a suppressor. I mean, a hot can is pure kryptonite. A hot .308 Win can is practically unsalable kryptonite.

It'd be like stealing, say, a garbage truck. Sure, they have a substantial dollar value attached to them, but who's going to buy it? You're going to wind up with something you can't use legitimately and which is only worth a C-note or two on the street, and for that you risk a murder rap with accompanying federal charges. Ot-nay oo-tay ight-bray, if you know what I mean.

Then again, if criminals were smart and possessed good planning skills they wouldn't be criminals, or at least not the kind that run around with guns and Halloween masks, and then lots of cops and lawyers and judges and so forth would be out of a job.

"Brilliant Criminal" are two words seldom used together, for good reason.

I have a friend who, years ago, bough and registered an m2 carbine.

"Because if I have my house broken into, I want the FBI and ATF going all out over my crummy little burglary."

Prison guards, eh? Umm, I hate to go all wookie here, but I thought we could trust agents of the state? (I'll wait for the hysterical laughter to die down.)

Peake said Tuso kept guns for him and said they'd been " stealing guns for the purpose of overthrowing the federal government" ( of the United State of America.) Peake said he and Tuso together are members of this organization. Peake refused to name that organization and told police he would " kill to defend his country and he was stealing weapons to defend his country."

Wookie enough for most people.

They'd be congresscritters and senators.

Exactly.

Lemmee guess: Someone with lots of cash, who also is less than concerned with legalities... drug dealers/gang bangers?

"Congresscritters and Senators" are "smart?"

I give you: John F*in Kerry.

Possessing a certain low cunning, at best.

True, with the rifle attached.

The suppressor by itself is practically worthless unless Ice Dog happened to have a .308 rifle with 9/16x24 threading lying around.

I guess the whole package could be rolled around in the trunk of a probable-cause-mobile to impress fellow gangstas and guarantee that any good traffic stop would result in federal time.

Umm, Tam, care to take odds that the "custom-built AR-15 rifle with a .308-caliber silencer" was more along the lines of an AR-10, and thus the can had a gat attached to it? Dunno, maybe I've not had my morning coffee yet, but that's how it reads to me.

We have a few critters in Omaha that, in such a suituation, just roll out of the probable cause mobile and start shootin' the Policeman.... they don't generally get away with it, but there does not seem to be a shortage of applicants for the job of "Hardcore Gang Member" .... I guess they figure if they are going to do hard time in a Federal lockup for a weapons or intent to distribute charge, they have nothing to lose by cutting loose .... like I said, critters unconcerned with legalities..... if murder of a policeman gives them no pause, whatinthesamhell do they care about an additional charge for a can?

Wonder what these 2 yahoos are going to say when they're thrown into General Population and run into the Head Bubba? "Sorry Guy, but the stuff we stole and killed for the Aryan Brotherhood was take away from us. Guess you're going to have to find another source on the Outside, huh?" 2 days later, Warden starts off his day calling the M.E. to pick up a couple of inmates who decided to take a ride in the Washing Machine...

I'm sorry for the family of the dude they murdered.

I'm also sorry for the kind of backlash things like this can generate. This can create a lockdown on CLEO signatures to continue to buy shiny things like suppressors. When some bright (dim) CLEO gets the idea that if he doesn't allow things like suppressors to be bought they can't be stolen. Which of course has about all the value of typical gun control measures.

I've seen it happen before locally, I hope that this doesn't happen in this case.

Why would you automatically assume that they stole the can to sell it later? Perhaps they wanted to actually use it?

Much more important is the lesson to watch your a** at the range. Being in condition white whilst wheeling in the Arsenel of Freedom is a sure ticket to trouble. A lot of great people are shooters in my experience but it doesn't hurt to keep your eyes open. If I were up to no good, the local range or range parking lot might be a great place to shop. Or maybe at that Mc D's(In+Out,BK) parking lot you stopped at after the range?
Everybody remembers where Platt and Maddox got much of their hardware and transportation right.;)

See? I would make such a lousy criminal mastermind. I'd be trying to make a profit, and I just can't think of many crimes that would be profitable in the long term if Step One was "Commit Murder One to steal an NFA Weapon..." :o

I suspect there's a guy in Alabama with a hard to pronounce last name who's looking into these schmucks' history to see of they've got ties to either or both the Feds and/or the white power crowd.
