...and you kids get off my lawn!

I think it's good when the youth of America take an interest in the civic institutions of our great nation, and actually try to make their voices heard by calling their representatives rather than by their more usual method of getting their nose pierced and then busting a Starbucks window and setting trash cans on fire.

However, noble as your motives may be, being mostly famous for running around with AR-15 upper receivers strapped to your boobs when you're not actually wearing dresses made of raw meat is a little damaging to your attempt at projecting an air of concerned gravitas and political maturity. I'm just sayin'. And turn that crap down! What are you kids listenin' to, anyway?

  2. I never have understood why the opinions of entertainers who seem more noted for outre behavior than talent should be seen as important.

    How famous, exactly?

Two of my areas of interest.... you'd think I'd be familiar with this person.....

Mehbee if the dress was made of BACON....

  5. Um . . I am listening to the Blue Man Group with Venus Hum on YouTube.com, "I Feel Love". And The Irish Rovers, "Whiskey On A Sunday".

I figure anyone that actually looks like she has makeup on, doesn't live a real life. Besides, if she doesn't have a welcoming smile for me, nothing else matters anyway.

I have seen pretty people. Naked. It didn't make me a better person. As a card-carrying nudist, I learned to look for the smile.

  6. Brad K. -- "As a card-carrying nudist..."

Which of course begs for the question, "Where, exactly, does a nudist carry that card?"

  7. I agree 100% with this lady.

  8. And in case you hadn't noticed, hating the music the young kids are listening to is a sure sign of middle age.

  9. Having just gone to see the Blue Man Group last night, I found myself watching "I Feel Love" today, too, Brad. Strange.

It's odd, agreeing with the premise of what someone whom you can't take seriously espouses. I wonder how history will remember Lady (is she OBE? Or a dowager?) Gaga, if at all.

While I agree with you in spirit, you don't rant about that when Tam tells you to call your senator. Gaga in this case isn't telling people what to believe, she's telling them that if they don't like what the .Gov is doing they should Do Something about it. She want's what we want to tell Congress "we are asking you to do your job, to protect the constitution."

Just because it's a Liberal saying it, doesn't make it wrong.

  12. Am I the only one utterly bored by Gaga? I mean, really, what the hell has she ever done that's worth a moment of anyone's attention?

But again, I was bored by Marilyn Manson as soon as he popped into view. "Oh, sure, I get it, you're shocking the bourgeoisie! Well played, sir. Except they don't appear shocked - they don't even appear to be paying attention."

So here's another shrill talentless buffoon prancing about, being so ultra-utterly transcendently, uh, transcendent, and the only ones who care are the self proclaimed cool kids, all chattering to each other and slyly looking over their shoulders to gauge their shocking, shocking impact.

Yeah, yeah, okay, fine, I am so totally shocked. Now either go the hell away or shut the hell up.

Right back at'cha. As the USN commercial asks, "If someone wrote a book about your life, would anyone want to read it?"

Opinions are like a-holes, everyone has got one; just because someone has an opinion doesn't mean they are wrong. It is what they DO with that opinion that matters.

Maybe some truly p'd off voters will finally get their acts together and vote for once to regain control of this ride.

Until "the mass of men who lead lives of quiet desperation" finally wake up and x-number of elected folks completely ignore the opinions of the majority of those who elected them, well then, players like Lady Gaga/Louis Farrakhan/Lincoln Rockwell just come right out of the woodwork.

  14. Lady Gaga is what Queen was warning about when they sang "Radio Gaga" +/- 30 years ago. So why should I listen to her Political Drivel about Military Policy when she never served one second in the Military?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Why are people so generally stupid? Don't ask Don't tell is what ALLOWS gays to serve in the military.

If it is repealed, you go right back to the UCMJ prohibitions against homosexuality, and suddenly ALL gays and lesbians are once again going to get tossed out.

No matter how you feel about the issue, at least (you idiot "entertainers") get the basic question right.

  16. anon is right! The ucmj is what makes being gay in the military illegal. That is the law that needs to be changed. Having served for 21 yrs in the service, i can say that there are many gays that do serve. But they can't say or proclame their sexuality. Don't ask don't tell allowed these patriots to serve the country. It just doesn't allow them to come out of the closet. Why not change the laws not the policie?

  18. Anon is right about anon being right!

Incidentally, Michael, to address your legitimate question, Tam never pretends that she's giving us anything but her own opinion, take it or leave it. But this GooGoo Girl has informed us she is speaking for her generation.

Well. Finally we know what The Lady Gaga Generation thinks. Like the rest of you, I have been gripped by moral paralysis, unable to form an opinion without having heard from The Lady Gaga Generation. I imagine they all got together somewhere and unanimously cried "Speak for us, Lady Gaga! Only you can be our voice."

So she's a vapid self important twit personally, but she does embody the Voice Of Her Generation.

  19. Well speaking as a member of the "GaGa Generation," she's got a point. DADT is discriminatory, and sexual orientation is no obstruction to good service.

As to her having the wrong issue, DADT has the advantage of a catchy name; much catchier in fact, then "The Policy of Discrimination against open homosexuality in the U.S. Military."

As to the question of making political opinions known while being wacky, no one here has brought up The Nuge. I agree with Ted a hell of a lot more often than GaGa. Who, for what it's worth, chose Lady GaGa as a stage name in a specific reference to Queen's Radio Gaga. FWIW, she claims to draw inspiration from Queen and David Bowie.

Fellow Bubblehead: We listen to plenty of people who've never served a day in the military about military policy. Which is as it should be; our military is under civilian oversight, the majority of the Senate and House aren't veterans.

As to what I'm listening to, these days: Led Zeppelin, Nightwish, Marian Call, Mike Doughty, Dropkick Murphys, and Jonathan Coulton.

Thank you, Tam. Glad to add to the conversation here on the porch.
