I need a word for something bad that rhymes with "O"...

So some of the workers were apparently questioning Pharaoh during a televised "Town Hall Meeting" yesterday, even ones claiming to be from smack in the center of his liberal base. Also, I noticed that the newscasters on the TeeWee this morning are back to giving out the death totals for Afghanistan in the same faux-worried tones traffic reporters use when they see something godawful strewn across the interstate.

So... "Yo, yo! BHO! How many kids have you brought to woe!" Does it scan?

I swear, it's like they put a bean in this guy's cake, and the rain has not fallen upon the crops, and so now the king must be sacrificed. If the guy weren't a smug collectivist whose nearly every view is diametrically opposed to my own, I'd almost feel sorry for him. What did these people think he was going to do? Wave a magic wand and the Skittle-crapping unicorns were going to show up to dispense Hope and Change? Oh, wait... That was kinda his campaign platform, wasn't it?

  2. The fundamental failure of democracy is that most people want to believe what they are told. The idea that they are being lied to with every word is difficult to accept. So when some demagogue steps up to the mic and says "Give me the reins, I know what to do" people generally trust that he's not just a narcissistic sociopath.

After the narcissism and sociopathy have become evident, his supporters will choose to ignore the evidence in order to not feel personally responsible for the disaster.

Remember, his approval rating is still 45%. That's a lot of suckers.

  3. Hypnagogue,

I could snark about what portion of the population makes up that 45%, but I actually know some level-headed people that won't bad-mouth Obama or the President. I also know some people that actually believe the (most current) words off Obama's teleprompter.

    Tam,

My "quote for the day" this morning (http://www.quotationspage.com/quote/20777.html) was Norman Mailer: The function of socialism is to raise suffering to a higher level.

Norman Mailer died in 2007, at age 84. Some people did near anything to avoid living under ObamaCare.

  5. I guess Obama figured maybe the horse would learn to sing.
(I'm sure you know the story referenced here)

  6. "Hogfather reference!"

It's a lot older than Discworld.

Hogfather made a Golden Bough reference. :)

You know, I really think you're on to something, there.

After all, only kooks and goldbugs were predicting anything longer than a couple-few quarters' worth of downturn back in late '07. The party in power when the ship inevitably righted itself would acquire enormous political capital.

  8. In honor of recent nat'l talk like a pirate day, perhaps your little ditty should be sung to the tune of Disney's "A Pirate's Life For Me" (original lyrics provided to isnpire all y'all's creative juices):

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.
We pillage, we plunder, we rifle, and loot,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.
We kidnap and ravage and don't give a hoot,
Drink up me 'earties, yo ho.

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.
We extort, we pilfer, we filch, and sack,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.
Maraud and embezzle, and even high-jack,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.
We kindle and char, inflame and ignite,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.
We burn up the city, we're really a fright,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.

We're rascals, scoundrels, villans, and knaves,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.
We're devils and black sheep, really bad eggs,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.
We're beggars and blighters, ne'er-do-well cads,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.
Aye, but we're loved by our mommies and dads,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.

  9. Woman: ".....I have two children in private school and the financial recession has taken an enormous toll on my family. My husband and I have joked for years that we thought we were well beyond the hot dogs and beans era of our lives but quite frankly, it's starting to knock on our door and ring true that that might be where we're headed again. Quite frankly, Mr. President, I need you to answer this honestly. Is this my new reality?"

OBAMA: (looks at his shoes, and mumbles-) "The life you described, one of responsibility, looking after your family, contributing back to your community, that's what we want to reward. Now, as I said before, times are tough for everybody right now. So I understand your frustration. There are a whole host of things that we've put in place that do make your life better, so my goal here is not to try to convince you that everything's where it needs to be. It's not. That's why I ran for president, but what I am saying is is that we're moving in the right direction."

Moving in the right direction? Even this gubmint employee lady can see that direction is down the road to 3rd world level misery, where there is a connected ruling class and everybody else is equally miserable.

.... and half of Pharaoh's supporters are hollerin' at their TV's, "Private School? Dis rich bitch can afford private school fo' her kids an' she all complainin' that she gonna hafta eat some beanie weenies? She jus' don't know how to take advan'age of all the Pro-grams... if she smart, she take dem kids out that private school 'n put 'em int th' Public School, 'cuz that school'd feed 'em, breh-fust, lunch and dinner! Den she could eat her some steak!

  10. I always thought that the proper Nemesis for Barack's Hubris is to be thrown under the bus by his own party/ supporters...

  11. Earlier today I saw the video of the black CFO woman and didn't think much of it.

But after reflecting, and seeing more about the "town hall" and knowing how absolutely restrictive and controlling they are about who is allowed into any event where Obama is, I can't help but wonder how much of it was staged.

There's no way they'd let a bunch of random people ask him unplanned questions, *especially* when Obama is without his teleprompters.
