'Tis the season...

Speaking of CNN, they had a list up of "geeks' most beloved holiday movies".

If you were a gun geek, that list would obviously include Die Hard and Lethal Weapon.

  1. What about "Heat" ?

There are a lot of neat guns in that one.

  3. Yes, but Die Hard and Lethal Weapon are both holiday movies.

Heck Mel Gibson even gets in a gunfight on a Christmas tree lot!

  6. I'm a big fan of "The Yakuza" because it mixes some gunplay with some swordplay and some hardcore japanese culture. And it's not a subtitled Japanese film. Plus, Robert Mitchum!

No, it's not a Christmas movie.

  7. My favorite Christmas movie is Santa's Slay. A movie where Fran Drescher gets killed in the opening scene has got to be good right?

  8. Meh.... the best ever was "The Night The Reindeer Died" with Lee Majors.

    GE Mini-gun!

  9. You forgot A Christmas Story!

"You'll shoot your eye out, kid."

Best gun geek movie I ever saw was The Wind and the Lion. Best part is where Teddy Roosevelt is trying out the world's army rifles using pictures of kings and princes for targets!

  11. My gun geek movies? "Red Dawn", and 'The Outlaw Josey Wales".

  12. I didn't think anyone actually LIKED the holliday special. George Lucas almost singlehandedly ruined star wars, and he didn't like it...

  13. Everytime I hear Jingle Bells I have to think of a blonde girl jumping off a balcony.

And then there's 'Now I got a machine gun. Ho, ho, ho.'

  14. Thanks, I got to watch the star wars christmas special on U-tube, and boy, it had lots of cheese. My excuse is I missed the first time due to being out of the country for 4 years. (Fulda Gap reference)

How much did they save on scripts by having the wookies set up the homey pre-christmas scene? How exciting it was to see the complete scene with cookies and occasional grunts, yawns and barks?

  15. Our holiday tradition three years running is that we watch White Christmas while trimming the tree and then we watch either Die Hard or Die Harder. His and hers Christmas films. ;)

And yes, T.Stahl. One of the great lines in moviedom.

  16. "You forgot A Christmas Story!"

No, they mentioned Ralphie in the setup for their list, BobG...

But I'll agree; that sweet goofy movie embodies the magic of both Christmas and the visceral attraction of firearms better than any I've ever seen.

  17. Die Hard is the greatest movie ever made.
    - it's a Christmas movie
    - it's a cop movie
    - it's a buddy picture
    - it's a heist picture
    - it's a drama
    - it's a romance
    - it's a thriller
    - it's a horror
    - it's a comedy
    - it's a disaster movie
    - it's a foreign language film
    - it portrays the unfair victimization of illegal immigrants by American journalists

and while it's not a war movie, per se, it does contain an awesome scene of military helicopters flying down the streets of LA - AND a reference to Vietnam.

  20. My Christmas favorites include Long Kiss Goodnight. I mean, truck bombing the Christmas parade, greeting the psycho assasion with rocket launcher with a bowl of Christmas candy? A Christmas present for the kidnapped kid a the Niagara Falls getaway? Too cool! Not to mention breaking the deer's neck with flashing Christmas earrings!

  21. Defintely *A Christmas Story*

Every kid has been told the fallback excuse of *You'll shoot your eye out*...and many a kid actually taped their paper to an old steel sign, and instantly realized that BB's will *RICOCHET*...
