Last batch of SHOT vids...

Kyle Lamb of Viking Tactics apparently has a new book coming out on pistol fighting, called Stay In The Fight. I very much liked his earlier book, Green Eyes and Black Rifles, and so I'm looking forward to this one.

This is cool: Primary Weapons Systems T3 Summit toggle-action rimfire rifle. Oh, and a long-stroke gas-piston AR carbine.

  1. The T-3 is cute. As for "piston gun" uppers, let me add a comment I clipped from an e-mail I wrote in reply to my buddy J.B., who, along with some other guys up at the Springfield Mass P.D., were running tests on our 1911's for us.

J.B. had asked me why we weren't running a full length spring guide. Some of my comments about the full length guide weren't quite printable.

I then added: "You might have noticed I'm not a fan. It's like sticking a second piston in an AR, in addition to the one God, Ljungman, and Gene Stoner put on the back of the bolt, something people have been trying since the RHINO conversion folks back in the '60's".

"And, to be honest, me also, at 2111 school in Quantico. But I was young and stupid then. Now I realize I don't know everything. Consider".

"The same amount of gas over the same amount of time, but now it has to move more metal, plus introducing AK style off axis camming effect on the bolt carrier to slow it down and increase reciever wear along the bottom, where it's most open and least strong".

"Throw in peening and wear at the contact point between op rod and carrier and you have what is commonly called a cluster".

"Actually, that's half of what it's called".

  2. Ed: You left out the increased problem of barrel harmonics because of all those additional moving parts right next to the barrel as the bullet is leaving the muzzle.

Which is, in my view, the reason why many of these things don't 'shoot' as well as the original Stoner system.

But what do I know? I'm just a dumb farmer...

  3. Is that toggle action rim fire the same action as my Baikal Biathlon?

  4. @ Anon 7:21: Has to be similar, and I'd be surprised to learn that Izhmash doesn't have a bunch of patents covering the Biathlon's toggle action.

Hope this one flies though, looks like a good candidate for building an americanized SV-99 from.

  5. that toggle action 22 is a gun in search of a market and butt ugly to boot.
Be a great brush catcher if you ever used it for anything other than posing at the range. Course with that crappy stock a lefty like me doesn't need to worry about it.
Guess I'm old fashioned but comparing the stuff coming out to old favorites like the Marlin 39 lever or the beautiful Browning 22 auto I can't get over the feeling we're going down the tried and tested 1980's US auto design route. You know - crap.

  6. Anon 9:53,

The stock on that rifle, a variant on the Shark Zero, which has been around for over a decade, isn't intended for "the brush". That's as silly as complaining about the ground clearance on an Indy Car.

PS: Kids these days think the Browning Auto 22 is ugly and this rifle looks cool, pops. ;)

  7. Well, those pesky kids can get off my lawn. And stay out of my decrepit abandoned amusement park too.

  8. I'll be damned. It looks like somebody in the US of A finally copied my Izmash/Baikal Biathlon Basic rimfire rifle. Hope they didn't run afoul of any patents in the process.
