More video from SHOT...

Larry Vickers, world-renowned expert on shooting smelly bad guys in the face, talks to Rob Pincus about the new Daniel Defense Lightweight Patrol Carbine.

Which reminds me that my switch-barrel AR carbine is still sporting an M4-profile barrel. I really need to order a 16" pencil-barrel for it from someplace...

  1. I guess Larry isn't going to see the need for the 100 or 60 round Surefire magazine for the LEO market. Just wondering.

  2. Bravo Company has lightweight barrels - good ones too. Midlength is the new hotness.

Bravo is frequently out of stock though, so Rainier Arms and Adco are also go-to sites.

    FWIW.

  3. Hmm - I was going to go with a SmartGunner.com "Build Your Own Upper," but this lightweight carbine seems like it fits the bill. There goes another paycheck!

  4. I'm taking a HandiCam to SHOT next year and I'm going to revolutionize the industry show video footage industry.

  5. If it wasn't for all the futzing around it would take to re-org the carbines I'd have a BCM lightweight mid-length already.

Lets see. Swap the bushy two stage target trigger group into the Territorial lower underneath the 6.5 grendel upper. Put that lower's STAG LPK into the bushy lower. Remove bling from bushy dissipator upper. Figure out gunbroker. Sell bushy upper with heavy ass hbar to somebody that likes doing mag dumps. Wait for BCM upper to stock. Buy! Replace parts on BCM upper. Resight, etc.

Though I'm very grateful to have these problems rather than, say, figuring out where the clean water is today.

  6. It was pretty interesting, but was extremely difficult to hear. Let's upgrade to a remote mic next time.

  7. For an iPhone viddie shot from the hip^^^^ using Target Focus on the show floor, it weren't all that bad, actually... ;)

  8. Agreed, but why jerry-rig it? Rob's a pro, even if the cameraman wasn't. Heck, for that matter, I'll just bet that an inexpensive bluetooth condensor mic could be found that they could hold between them for such quick interviews.

I know, I know-- 10 years ago we were squeeing over just getting ASCII text reviews about what was going on at SHOT.

Now I'm whining that I can't see instant, free, full-color videos that are put up online the same day (why not same hour?!? ;) [/whine]), complete with recording studio-quality sound. :) :D

  10. Anon 6:58,

You know one difference between Larry and you? He's not scared to put his name behind what he says.

  11. Huh. It sounds like my Mini-14 is once again on the cutting edge!

  12. Tam,
I won't comment on Vickers, but I'd like to. It's just not constructive, though. I will suggest that you ought to make sure that your 16" barrel carries a middy gas system.

  13. Just My 2¢,

No, this barrel will have a carbine-length gas tube just like the one that's on the gun now.

When next I build up one of the stripped lowers I have lying around, that one will get a middie length guard and gas system to go with it.

  14. Are bad guy's consistently smelly? I figure they'd be the ones buying the faux cologne brands at the walgreen... "If you like obsession you'll love rogue!"

    Best!

  15. Problem is, McVee, 60% of the time, Rogue works every time.
