From the nation that invented the snub...

Maybe they could record the wedding and send it to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. as a video on an iPod and some Region 2 DVDs...

  1. Even better... I thought I heard Kanye West got an invite!
    Ouch.

  2. Much as I hate to point it out, there's a more-or-less logical explanation: this isn't a State event and our head of state isn't the only one not receiving an invitation. Look for a guest list that leans to bluebloods and celebrities.

I dunno Roberta... I'd swear you just described most of our politicians.

  4. Simpler explanation: they couldn't find a hotel that would take our check for 200 rooms for the entourage.

(ipod vid and incompatible dvd's...heh. Well-bred Brits always reciprocate.)

  5. Bwahahaha! I couldn't think of a better response than Tam's...and it's too bad that the British would have far too much class to ever do such a thing. And on the other hand, Michelle should be relieved because they probably wouldn't be serving arugula in the salad, anyway.

  6. Jeez -- Ron and Nancy Reagan went to Diana's wedding. Maybe they just want classy people there.

  7. ...But that was a State event. Prince of Wales and all that.

  8. Would you want them at your wedding? With a narcissism flare-up, they would think the reception was a party in their honor.

  10. Bobbi: Truly asking, because a deep study of the British Monarchy isn't something I've made -- Third in line for the throne doesn't count as a State Event?

Heh! So, are the Brits still smarting over the colonial rabble beating their Redcoats?

  12. More importantly, I did NOT get an invitation to the wedding, despite toasting the Queen at every dinner while I was touring her demesne.

    Sigh! Some people.

  13. I don't know if they aimed to snub it could have been better. Personally I'd have gone with either sending an invite, but with a seat in the cellar, or an invite for Palin.

  14. Crotalus,

I'm thinking you didn't get my post.

  15. Perlhaqr, I'm not Bobbi, but as I understand things, while Harry is technically third in line, he has not officially been made third in line yet (probably because of his military position) so this is not a state wedding. Once he is named (please, your Majesty, skip a generation, please oh please), then things change and become more official.

Note, please, that I'm a historian and not a specialist in modern succession practices in Britain, so I could be wayyy off.

  16. Arrrgh. William, not Harry. I spend my days either before WIlliam the Conqueror or between Charles II and Victoria. Sorry 'bout that.

  17. Actually I'm very grateful to them for looking out after my interests.

Think of all the money that won't have to be electronically generated to pay for the trip.
