Those appeal to idiots like my neighbor. He owns three of the cheap, imported "Judge" knock-offs and he stashes one in each of his vans and carries one. I asked him if he ever fired them and he replied that he fired the first one once back when he bought it but it hurt his hand and then the gun broke. So I asked him why he subsequently bought two more and he said that the dealer was real nice and replaced the broken one, and he really likes the "bad-ass" idea of a shotgun pistol, so he cleaned the dealer out and now owns three, none of which he's actually fired. It's an image thing to him.
Did I mention I have hicks for neighbors? These are the sort of people who buy such firearms.
Borrowing from a commenter at the linked site, it looks rather like a snub-nosed Colt Walker.
Some modestly fertile ground for a sociologist or an economist: do companies do the "me too!" thing because there's genuine profit opportunity, or because... everybody else is doing it? I remember the recurved trigger guard craze some years ago; same thing. For that matter: two-tone paint jobs on cars; tailfins; plaid clothing; the bizarre sole designs on athletic shoes; etc, etc.
No, the LeMat at least had nine useful chambers and only the one that catered to ballistic illiterati, making it at least 90% useful instead of 100% dumb.
I'm pretty sure you were the one who wrote about the phenomenon of how well the Judge sells, considering it's questionable aesthetics and usefulness, Tam, and how others are jumping on the Taurus bandwagon to cash in on the impulsiveness of the gun buying public.
Why else would the dealer who sells Hi Points be the busiest one at the last show I went to?
People think the phrase 'shotgun-pistol' and visualize themselves in some post apocalyptic land, driving a fast coupe with a mangy dog in the passenger seat, one step ahead of the leather clad hordes. It's an appealing fantasy, probably, to a person who drives a ten year old mini van filled with empty juiceboxes and dirty kleenex all week...
Anonymous - The High-Point dealer was the busiest because they cost a third as much as the big brands. Not everyone has a grand laying around for a new pistol. You can argue that they suck and I won't disagree, but a $180 pistol is better than none.
Tam - Who cares? Pistols are next to useless in any military application. And, I'm guessing that most pilots can't shoot - so they may as well have a 2-inch shotgun.
I'm wondering if, as a survival weapon it would be useful on small game - birds, squirrels, etc...? Even a 9mm is going to blow a squirrel to pieces if you can hit it.
I always thought that pilots should have a something like the folding Kel-tec carbines / Rifles as a survival weapon. That's what the M16 was originally designed for.
My personal opinion is that these things are the pepperboxes of the 21st Century. Regardless, they still do fire 45LC so it's not a complete waste. Tam, we all know you'd get one if it was an airweight and came with pink grips.... :-P
I am pretty sure Sam Colt is spinning in his grave. Also reckon the Almighty is sitting up there looking at it and has decided "This thing is getting filed under `Unholy Abomination' ”.
Oh jeez! They've made confetti of common sense.
ReplyDeleteSadly, the date stamp on the post is the 31st...
ReplyDeleteBut it was late! Maybe his clock was fast!
ReplyDeleteAfter reading Breda's latest, I'mma thinking this to be the up and coming trend for the 'lil ladies. I mean, how can you miss?
ReplyDeletethat's one pansy looking gun.

Why all this hand-wringing about an updated LeMat?
ReplyDeleteUm, maybe you need to go take another look at a LeMat.
ReplyDeleteNaaah. Same basic idea -- the dreaded cone of death. :)

ReplyDeleteThis seems fitting.
ReplyDeleteJim
And that's Paterson cylinder style, Walkers had engraved cylinders.
ReplyDeleteCan a shot 1911 be far behind?

Matt
St Paul
Matt, you've met my neighbor?
ReplyDeleteTo paraphrase Clint Smith,
ReplyDeleteOne is none
Two is none
Three is more of none

Stupid me - I read too fast ans saw USAF instead of USFA. Nevermind.
ReplyDeleteNext: the Glock 410/45LC.

Well, if they made it in PINK for all the Little Ladies First and Only Pistol.....up next, the .410 Deagle! ; )
ReplyDeleteWasn't it Col. Cooper when asked about some new model POS "What's it for?", who responded, "To sell."?
ReplyDeleteNo shortage of Hydrogen, either....
ReplyDeleteJust yesterday I had some codger at Cabela's telling me just how great his judge was for self defense.....
Me: "Really? Kinda big to carry, no?"
Codger Cledus: Oh, I don't carry it..."
Me: "um... kay .... "
I wanna know when they're going to make a snubnose .454 Casuli!

ReplyDelete....and a full length guide-rod. Hiding now....... ;-)
ReplyDelete"Patents pending"?

Now that'll catch a lot of fish!
ReplyDeleteI thought it was a snub nose Walker.
ReplyDeleteHave no fear, it will never see the light of day. USFA has a habit of talking big, but walking small.
I think this is a sharp mlooking piece,If they chamber it in 45-70 I would buy one.
ReplyDeleteI'm holding out for a 12gauge version. Hopefully Charter will make one in red, white and blue as well as pink.
