The covers of this book were too damn close together.
"At last they rode over the downs and took the East Road, and then Merry and Pippin rode on to Buckland and already they were singing again as they went. But Sam turned to Bywater, and so came back up the Hill, as day was ending once more. And he went on, and there was yellow light, and fire within; and the evening meal was ready, and he was expected. And Rose drew him in, and set him in his chair, and put little Elanor upon his lap.
He drew a deep breath. 'Well, I'm back,' he said."
Very happy to hear it, too.
ReplyDeleteGotta agree with that.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a good time and a safe trip.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're safe home.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of James Agee's Knoxville: Summer of 1915, which ends thusly:
ReplyDeleteAfter a little I am taken in and put to bed. Sleep, soft smiling, draws me unto her: and those receive me, who quietly treat me, as one familiar and well-beloved in that home: but will not, oh, will not, not now, not ever; but will not ever tell me who I am.
There and Back Again...
ReplyDeleteGlad you made it back okay!
ReplyDeleteMay Cthulhu caress your pillow with foetid dreams of tentacles and vines.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the update. I was anxious to hear of your safe arrival at home. It was grand meeting you, and I hope to see you again very soon.
ReplyDeleteThirty years ago, when the Mrs was carrying Zeke, I read The Hobbit to her. She liked that a lot, and I started on The Fellowship Of The Ring for her. That lasted one evening. I came home from work the next day and she wouldn't let me have "Her Precious" to read. She was already 1/3 of the way through it. I got to read the books after she was done with them.
ReplyDeleteYou have lived here long enough now to know the heartfelt meaning of the words...."Back Home Again In Indiana".

Tam--Welcome home. Hopefully you won't need to be like Sherlock Holmes, when he complained that the criminal element always seemed to get more active the moment they knew he was out of town.
Welcome back, Eowyn. :)
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you made it back, safe and sound. I'll echo Phlegmmy here and say how wonderful it was to meet you, and a privilege to watch you shoot.
