Indianapolis's Public Safety Director, Frank Straub, imported from New York with promises to clean up Indy's streets and take a new broom to the IMPD, apparently forgot to bring his bristles and is being sent packing.
It's definitely for the best. A guy who believes in the dangers of firearms in the hands of people who don't have badges and shiny low-quarters to go with them just wasn't going to be a good fit in the land of the $100 lifetime carry permit and stiff state-level preemption laws. I guess when the only play in your playbook is "get the guns off the street", maybe you weren't such a lucky draft pick after all.
Why Indy needed a Public Safety Director is beyond me. Isn't that like the Mayor's #1 job? Sure, I wouldn't want to be held accountable for a department that's got officers driving drunk on duty in squad cars, beating their domestic partner and generally being douche-bags. But that's the job my boy.
ReplyDelete*spits out salsa in disgust* "New York City?!"
ReplyDeleteShiny low quarters...heh.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of the CoP we have here in OKC; when an officer was shot by an illegal alien, he announced that 'anybody who owns one of those assault weapons should have to register it!'; not a word about illegal aliens, violations of federal law, etc., just "You people can't be trusted with these!"
ReplyDeleteYou can imagine how well that went over.
Mulliga,
ReplyDeleteI'll keep pitchin' 'em, you keep hittin' 'em. :)
The Bolsheviks will hire him back in the USSR, New York City Division.
ReplyDeleteThis Ballard twit has me questioning the validity of Indiana "Republicans."
ReplyDeleteLafayette's current mayor is a Dem, seeming to do a decent job. His Republican predecessor was a disaster.
Conservative/libertarian citizens need to push even harder for a return of the Republican party from those that have steered it into the gaping hole left by Dems that realized admitting socialist/communist planks didn't send the citizenry running for the hills.
Not only that, but Repubs seem to have also adopted the Chicago Dem pattern of corruption.
Or just leave and start over, using the Tea Party as kindling.
Hell, we don't need the "Republican" title for a conservative opposition to statism, but "Libertarian" is pinched tightly by roach clips and "Wookie suiter" lacks gravitas.
Ummm... "shiny low-quarters"? I no get.
ReplyDeleteLow quarters.
ReplyDeleteFirst, ditto Joseph: if a city has the usual mayor and chief of police, why does it need a "director of public safety"?

This raises the question about what sort of a man WOULD be a good fit. It strikes me that Americans have a decent amount of experience with running police departments, and we know (or SHOULD know) what to look for.
I suggest that the real problem is that Straub was quite a good fit in the eyes of the morons who hired him; our political class is about as elitist as the nobility of pre-revolutionary France and has the same attitude toward the people, i.e. dirty, ignorant, violent peasants who have to be kept in line lest they inconvenience their betters. Based on what you've written, it seems that Straub was perfect for that job.
Low quarters? Cops still wear them? I thought they'd switched over to Tacti-cool Ninja boots a long time ago.
ReplyDelete@Rickn8or: I dunno, my dad was wearing Red Wing work "boondockers" 40 years ago. I used to spit shine them for him.
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of man would be good?
ReplyDelete"You're caught drinking on the job, your fired. You're caught breaking the law while 'enforcing' it, you're fired. The people you're screwing with are the reason you have a job and you have responsibilities; live up to them, or your ass is gone."
FINDING one like that which the politicians will hire, now THAT'S a problem
Firehand,

Do tell. I missed that little tidbit up here in T-town, but given the general attitude in our state about firearms (which includes most cops) I can't imagine such a comment was very well recieved by the constituency.
@Firehand
ReplyDeleteYou mean fired and then prosecuted. Right? Of course the Blue Union would prevent that so nevermind.
