Snark that should only be handled by remote control:

So everybody is aware of NYC Mayor and Douchecanoe-in-Chief Michael Bloomberg's reasoning for turning down the idea of calling on the National Guard for assistance in the post-apocalyptic Big Apple, right?
" The NYPD is the only people we want on the street with guns."
Well there you go, Gothamites; the God-Emperor has spoken. If you run into a guy in your stairwell tonight and he sticks a cheap chromed pistol in your face, don't worry, it's just the cops!

Of course, in NYC, that may not necessarily be as far from the truth as we'd like. As Marko wrote on his Facebook page:
"Mayor Bloomberg has refused to let any out-of-state plumbers enter NYC to help with the Sandy aftermath. He says that NYPD officers should be the only one on the streets with toilet plungers*."
Bazinga!

*For VFTP readers under age thirty: Abner Louima. You know what kills me about the Louima case? Okay, the Eighth Amendment prevented Us the People from using a toilet plunger on NYPD Officer Justin Volpe, and so a lengthy prison sentence had to do, but the officers convicted of the coverup? They should have stripped them of their brass buttons in Times Square and then made a meat windchime out of them. That's the only way you're going to break the culture of coverup.

  2. This former National Guardsman is stunned. I don't even know where to begin.

They elected 3 him times (despite a 2-term limit), fuck them.

  3. Glad to see that you're feeling well enough to release the Snarken.

  4. You know it occurred to me yesterday as I was talking to my brother that this is the result of 30+ years of not prosecuting gang crime. Gangs are tough, it's easier and safer to harass drunk drivers and sex offenders. Drunks and pervs don't follow you home and threaten your family, so they can be safely beaten on while you call the Crips a youth club. When the lights go out in a big way though, here's the natural result. A society almost instantly shattered by dangerous violent thugs.

  5. The thing is, the New York National Guard is NOT part of the Praetorian Guard, so Micky Augustus can't order them to slaughter the Plebes if he so desires.

  6. Exactly; he can't order them around, so he would probably prefer they not be there at all.
Can't have uppity peasants not caring what Nanny Bloomberg says, now can he?

Thomas, that's probably part of it. Add in not going after illegals in the name of Being Sensitive To Immigrants, and how many illegals there are in gangs, makes it worse.
Side note: couple of OCPD officers mentioned in the past that if you got rid of the illegals gangs, our area gang problems would at least cut by half.

  7. Les - Good point. I get the impression that Andrew Cuomo has little patience for Bloomberg's preening.

  9. They voted for him, knowing what he is and what he believes. And now the poor sorry idiots are getting just what they asked for.

And their support of the unions on the good times...I hope freezing in the dark an extra few days is worth it.

"They voted for him, knowing what he is and what he believes. And now the poor sorry idiots are getting just what they asked for."

So, just like you and I voted for Obama and are getting what we asked for?

  11. The New York National Guard is under the authority of the Governor of the State of New York, not the Mayor of New York City. It is a control thing. Bloomberg does not want to even have the appearance that he is not in total, complete control.
