Tilting at windmills...

Flintlocks and Flop-tops
And Number Three Russians
Black-powder Mausers
From jackbooted Prussians,
Shiny Smith PC's from limited runs
These are a few of my favorite guns.

Socketed bay'nets
On Zulu War rifles,
Engraved, iv'ried Lugers
That make quite an eyefull
Mosin tomato stakes sold by the ton
These are a few of my favorite guns.

Rusty top-breaks!
Smallbore Schuetzens!
And all of Browning's spawn
I just keep on browsing my favorite guns
Until all my money's gone.
I have this grim premonition that today's Fun Show is going to be like the Ante-Inferno of Dante's Canto III: a giant empty exhibit hall with a horde of innumerable tortured souls chasing fruitlessly after one guy holding a brick of .22LR ammo, pursued by a swarm of people shouting "Hey! Whatchu got there? How much you want fer that?"

Nevertheless, I saddle up Rocinante as I always do. Wish me well, my friends! There are rusty old Smiths still roaming free that need lassoing!

  2. I heard that at our fun show last nigh, a guy was selling bricks of 22 for 100 bucks.

I started with 2500 rds of 9mm ans sold it all in the first 2 hours. My table is looking a little bare.

  3. You're going early, I'll be there late today due to a committment to the local FFA chapter this morning.

Like Shootin' Buddy said to me this week, "We have t go just to see what's there..."

    So True...

  6. I'm going to brave one for the first time since the SCOAMF was re-elected.

Don't really want to but I really need a couple of small parts to finish my m4gery project.

Plus I'm hoping I can score some HP-38 and Accurate No. 5 powder. Perhaps some primers too.

A friend is working a table there. I sent 4 boxes of .30-06 with him I'll never use. Hope it's sold by the time I get there so I'll have more money to buy components.

  13. There is a new sport.

Streaking gunshows while holding a brick of .22 overhead, with a sign saying make me an offer.

Would anyone even notice that he or she was undressed?

  14. I went to the last gun show here to try to sell off some stuff, and for 1/2 to 2/3 what the vendors there were asking. Idiots were oblivious to the sign I had, and were paying the inflated prices at the tables.

  15. The question is:

Do you turn into Sancho Panza when Roberta drags you to a hamfest?

  16. Rocinante... the very name the writer Colin Fletcher gave his proto-Subie in "The Winds Of Mara".

  17. Thanks for the invite to go with. I did arrive at travel destination, and all is well.

Have fun. If they have any cheap Minnie Pearl Mausers with the little tags hanging off, pick up one for me.

Frank, could you adjust your blog settings to allow a post that doesn't kick back, "your ID couldn't be verified"?
Another blogger with the same type of format said "its deep in the settings".

  21. Our local gunshop is calling people shambling about in search of the ever elusive 9mm, .45 ACP, 5.56mm and 7.62mm NATO "Ammo Zombies".

  22. Its weird, You can find all the Cor-Bon,Buffalo Bore and PDX Hypermagnum ammo you want at 30$+ for 20,but you cannot find a singe box of .45 LC cowboy ammo, anywhere at any price.

  23. Here in the totalitarian State of NY ammo is delivered every Wednesday to the local Gander where a line of folks wait for their ration...gone in a few hours from what I'm told. Still have 12 gauge target loads and I figure good enough for clay good enough for whatever...

  26. Jennifer,

We should totally get some little kids as extras and film you singing it while skipping through a gun show à la Julie Andrews. It would be the awesomest bestest YouTube ever! :D

  27. Went to the Oaks and Split Rock shows in PA the past two week ends. All the AR's you'd ever want long as you wanted to pay $1700 and up. Couldn't find a thing I wanted except for some mags for my M9
