Went to a county fair in CT when visiting family and saw the oxen pull. They started pulling what the top draft team failed. watching 2 cows pulling well over 10k lbs is unbelievable. Dirt and snot flying, and when it's done they stand at the edge of the ring like nothing happened. Nothing like horse pulls.
If it wasn't because oxen are so damn slow, horses, who require high grade feed, and are WAY more fussy, would never have gotten into the draft business.
Well, something original there. The last time I saw an ox named Jerry, he was yoked with . . . you guessed it . . . Tom.

ReplyDeleteChub and Jerry must be some badass bovines to warrant a chain link fence for a muzzle.

ReplyDeleteThey must have been pulling logs and so on, not treading out grain.
ReplyDelete"For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out the corn. And, The laborer is worthy of his hire."
