An entire worldview based on self-loathing.

Because, really, what self-respecting person wouldn't rather be foreign? Then you'd have a cool accent (which, as everyone knows, makes you smarter) and you'd get to eat ethnic food all the time!

  1. I'll stick with my southern accent and burgers and fries... thank you... And Sonny doesn't put out the half of it... When you add in the 'royals' and their attitudes and actions (and getting away with murder, literally)... Just sayin...

Congratulations, you just made me realize that hey, I am the cool foreigner! Our family has been in this county since at least 1644, but if I were to travel to such out-of-the way places I'd certainly be the guy from out of town...and perhaps the only guy in the room with the cool accent and weird food.

Just because I don't go to such places doesn't mean that I'm not the same person. In this day and age, certainly someone is not required to travel in order to be considered a traveler, not in a society that says you don't have to actually win to get a trophy. Maybe around here I'm the mediocre, dull Fred local guy, but somewhere out there I'm the mysterious, groovy too-cool-for-school stranger from out of town. Yippy. Thanks to semantics and a very liberal imagination, my self-esteem is now through the roof. Perhaps if I promise to be nice I can get a Nobel, too.

I always thought that I was a staid, quasi-Puritan stereotypical New Englander, and yet here thanks to Tam's place I now realize that I can be a cool foreign traveler dude, too!

  8. Don't forget the fun ethnic style partaaay with circle dancing! Because that's what the cool, ethnic not-white not-Americans pretty much do all the time. In their native dress!
