Going in to Twenty Tap for lunch today, I passed this BMW K1600 tourer and tasty little Honda CB400F Super Sport parked up out front...
...coming out, they were gone, replaced by this dead-sexy Triumph Bonneville with drop bars and bar end mirrors. I would do bad, bad things for this bike. (For that little Honda up above, too, actually.)
Hey, look! The weather was nice enough that Fat Dan's had its garage door open! Maybe time for a reuben again.
.
Used to TT with a Turnip 40 incher.
ReplyDeleteWas fun.
At the end in 2010, I was paying about $60 per ride for the annual insurance on the 1978 Gold Wing. I sold it to a guy who drove twelve hours with his dog to pick it up, having bought the 2up capable, injected Buell for the missus and I. I miss it still.
ReplyDeletePerhaps that's stretching the definition of "bad, bad things..." But I feel you.
I believe that would be a '76 400-4 (it's that 'sort-of blue/purple' color). Stock shocks, no side cover, no seat strap, stock horn, odd-looking mirrors, the re-call gas cap, and some kind of strange bracket next to the headlight behind the reflector, which, if I didn't know any better, looks almost like a number plate bracket.
ReplyDeleteAnd the turn signal stalks might've been shortened a tad.
And you can't have mine. But then you probably wouldn't want it - it's got a shade over 91K miles on it, and looks it. :-)

Eh, snow in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow here in Lower Cryogenica. My SUV is too efficient I guess. I wonder if I can get a deal on a '75 Caddy with 500 big block to burn more gas and drown more polar bears.
ReplyDeleteGot beside a Zed Drei in traffic on the commute home. It had the top down.
ReplyDeleteI thought "Tam would like to see that because it's a sure sign Spring is coming".
You wouldn't have liked the gear grind the fellow did on the 1-2 shift though. "That tranny won't last long doing that" I mumbled to myself.
Just my luck, I'm fresh out of Triumph bikes ...
ReplyDeleteThat Honda is drool worthy. Would look even cooler with a side car, though.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, dude, but a CB400F with a sidecar is like a Miata with a lift kit and knobby mudders.
ReplyDeleteBSR:
ReplyDeleteThat bracket seems to be a mount for the tiny, very dark, windscreen just above the headlite. Mirrors appear to be from a big Honda, maybe Goldwing. (Look like the mirrors that came with the complete Goldwing front end that we put on a friend's '71 Norton, in '76. Double discs, baby!)
The rear rim looks wider than stock.
Didn't they have CV type carbs by then?
Take the Triumph much better vibrations
ReplyDeleteKnew a girl who rallied in her miata....
ReplyDeleteDidn't have a lift, but it's tires tread matched her personality - aggressive and grabby.
I have a Suzuki and a Harley in the shed, maybe I'll have the time and cash to do something with them this year...
