Any car geeks can identify the race tracks represented by the decals in the bottom right hand corner of the rear window?

I *think* the one on the right is Sonoma Raceway in The Chute configuration (formerly Sears Point).

The one on the left is Road Atlanta. The one on the right is Mid-Ohio. I don't know what the center one is. Sorry.
Don't know about the other two, but the first one on the left is Road Atlanta....Georgia transplant here, btw.

ReplyDeleteYeah, the one on the left is Road Atlanta after it was changed to add the chicane at the end of the back straight. I been lucky enough to do laps around both the before version and the after.

ReplyDeleteBeing more of a quarter-mile type, I couldn't tell you a thing about those tracks. Being partial to sleepers myself, though, I can appreciate the Volvo. Bet you'd have liked the Dodge D/Dart, back when.

ReplyDeleteLOL, love the plate too! And sleeper is right! I'm betting the suspension has been modifed with a 1-2 inch drop, probably upgraded Bilstein shocks and bigger sway bars! :-)

Did you see the episode of "chasing classic cars" where the guy bought Paul Newman's Volvo station wagon? It had a hopped up Ford V8 and "upgraded" suspension. Is this that car?
ReplyDeleteThe fastest I have ever driven was in a station wagon- An Opel Omega .... 5 speed manual transmission ..... I was cruising right along on the A3 and closing rapidly on Nuremburg and asked how fast 220 Km/h was in MPH ..... when I got the answer I decided we did NOT need to get to Garmisch that quickly .....

The best sleeper vehicle is a 1984 Vanagon. The day I passed the cop doing 90 in a 70 zone and watched him do a WTF doubletake at the radar gun was the day I learned that. And no, I didn't get pulled over. Last I saw of him was a befuddled look as he was examining the radar gun. One of my lottery dreams was always to drop a Porche engine in the back of that van for the ultimate sleeper.
Brick, my 4th car, in '83, was a '73 144. It'd run over 100 (mph, not kph) & just sing along. Allowed me to survive a no-sides-touching wheel-to-roof flip, as well. Tough car, if not really stylish for a then-18-year-old.
