It's been a good summer for car spotting in Broad Ripple...
Sitting at a local service station is this stately-looking early postwar Dodge sedan. I love the suicide doors.
I'm not enough of a Mopar buff to tell you whether it's a '46, '47, or '48. It's interesting how they tried to freshen the prewar lines while using as much of the old design as possible.

Few people know that the grill was the inspiration for the Jeopardy game board
ReplyDeleteWe call those kissing doors.
ReplyDeleteGreat looking cars, almost bought a 47 tudoor a few years back but I needed it like I need another hole in my head.
Stately is right! :-) Driving Miss Daisy... :-D
ReplyDeleteI don't think there is any difference between the three model years. GM policy was that every year something had to be different so the sales droids could claim it was new and improved but Chrysler was different.
ReplyDeleteI spotted two rare birds yesterday. A Rambler American and a Studebaker Avanti. The Stude sounded great as it went past.

Dodge was the best all time name for an American car.
ReplyDeleteI predict you'll get to "Automotif L" by the end of the calendar year.
ReplyDeleteIt would be fitting if "L" was a Volt up on blocks.

I had the pleasure of using a '48 Plymouth 4 door (same car different grill) as a daily driver for a number of months in '73 and it was a lot of fun (stopping required advance planning).
ReplyDeleteThe backseat space was HUGE (and quite comfortable for 2). Plus, the radio had a setting called "mellow," so, naturally, we named it the mellowmobile.
Very appropriate for the early '70's.
