That sound you heard...

...was Gov. Christie's hat landing in the ring:
"Mass violence will not end by changing the number of bullets loaded into a gun," said Christie, whose stance on guns is being watched closely ahead of a potential run for president in 2016.
If he'd signed the bill, it would have effectively torpedoed his chances in the GOP primary and probably in the general election, and everybody serious about politics knows it.

Don't let the anti-gun astroturf press release repeaterbots at Moms Demand Stuff tell you that gun control is a winning issue in this country outside of a few coastal enclaves, 'cause it ain't; what Bloomberg knows about the electorate outside of the Five Boroughs would fit on the head of a pin. In Sharpie.

On the other hand, don't think this marks Short Round as any kind of deeply-convicted friend of the Second Amendment, either; he's a pragmatist to the core. If it was only reelection in the Garden State he was worried about, Christie would have signed that bill so fast, the ink in the pen would have boiled from the friction.

  1. Christie wants power and I am not in a mind to give it to him. He is a lying weasel. And a bully to boot. No better than the current occupant of the white house.

We should not elect anyone from the east or west coast to high office.

  2. Oh, he'll care HUGELY about the 2nd.

Long enough to get into the Oval Office.

  3. So for the past several elections, the Republicans have nominated people who governed extremely blue states, or who were known for their bipartisan bending to the Democrat will, or who were so old they did Viagra commercials after losing.

There is a reason we get such candidates. I just wish it would stop. I remember Nixon, who despite his little foibles as president was a good campaigner against McGovern. I remember Reagan, who made Mondale look like the creme cheese icing on the Democrat crap cake that he was.

Would someone like Cruz do better? I imagine he could look at Hillary during a debate and say, "That is not just a lie, it is a pathetic lie, a bullshit piece of garbage just like your VRWC and your smear attempts of every woman your husband seduced or raped."

That is my test for 2016. Who will call Hillary a damned liar to her face, and not back down? I don't think it will be Governor Blocked Traffic.

  5. I like Christie as my Gov - because we can only do worse here in NJ.

    As a President? No thanks.

  6. Just finished reading "Conservative Insurgency" after the Book Bomb by Correia. Makes a nice counterpoint...

  7. Robert, Let's hope that won't be necessary.

Mikee, yes, we need someone who can campaign for liberty with the same bareknuckle good nature of Reagan.

  8. I'm with Bram on this. He's ok as a NJ Gov. but I hope he doesn't succeed nationally. I know I won't vote for him.

  9. Miles, looking at her poll number and her amazing gaffe machine on her book tour, I think we'll be seeing Elizabeth Warren rather than Hillary.

And given that she's a relative unknown with no resume to speak of and all Hopey Changes, we shouldn't underestimate her.

  10. I believe Weer'd is probably correct.

    *sigh*

Now that we've proven that anyone can become President in America, I was really hoping we could get back to electing competent ones...

  11. I guess us gunnies are supposed to think "Gee, Christy really IS a conservative!"
Maybe for the Eastern and Pacific time zones...

  13. Hill will continue to give speeches, raise money, and lie until "health issues" forces her to "reassess" her run. I don't know if those "health issues" will be her own or Bill's but either way the monies raised will NOT be returned.
I look forward to seeing Biden and Warren debate.

  14. I'd trust Christie to defend my Gun Rights as much as I would Scott Brown.

Who just so happened to take a LARGE Chunk of Change from Mickey Bloomberg in his last senate Go-Round.

    Birds of a Feather.

  19. He's still a statist turd and I really can't discern any significant difference betwixt him and Hillary. Quite seriously, I'd rather vote for a third party Constitutionalist and let Hillary have the damned thing if that's what it comes down to. If that's what it takes to give the Democratic Party another 4-8 years to convince the populace that they are a disaster for us economically and socially or it simply leads to a reboot of the American experiment, I'm fed up with being asked to vote for Liberal Tyrant Lite every four years...

  20. "If that's what it takes to give the Democratic Party another 4-8 years to convince the populace that they are a disaster for us economically and socially"

Unfortunately, I don't think the populace is capable of grokking what the root cause of the US downfall is.

Keep in mind that we are beyond the tipping point...over half the populace is now on the government dole in some form or another. Think a large enough percentage of them will vote to gore their own ox over the short term to save the nation over the long? I don't.

I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hades of a true conservative, libertarian or constitutionalist to get elected President in this country ever again. Those of us who would vote for them are simply outnumbered by those who want nothing more than to continue to be taken care of by big daddy government for as long as they can make it last.

And when things continue to go to crap...as the poor continue to get poorer, the rich cronies continue to get richer and the middle class becomes extinct, they will have no idea...or simply won't care...what is causing the problem; as long as they are shielded from having to do the hard work of bearing adult responsibility for their own decisions and lives, serfdom will suit them just fine thank you very much.
