Politics: It's gonna be a long twenty-three months...

We're almost two years shy of the actual election. Only a few candidates have even announced that they'll be running. The Iowa caucus is still a year away...

...and we are already being treated to coverage of every little step taken (literally) by Hillary and Obama in the capitol rotunda after the State of the Union address last night.

This is going to be a long and depressingly sucky campaign.

PS: ...and what's gonna happen to the finger-wagging, lecturing, "Lesser Of Two Evils" voters if this election comes down to McCain v. Edwards or Clinton v. Giuliani, and there is no lesser evil? Are we justified in voting third party then? Or should we just say "screw it", and stay home?

If it comes down to either McCain or Giuliani running under the big red R then I am probably going to pick the third party and will recommend that every other freedom lover to do the same.
There is less than no sense in voting for either one of those liberals in republican's clothing.

I agree with Trent. Ron Paul will get my vote even if it is a write-in.

Well, you know that the finger-wagging crowd would prefer the Libertarian voters to stay home, because they erroneously assume that every vote for Ron Paul is a vote sapped from the Republican candidate.

I'll just do what I did back in 2004...vote my convictions and "throw my vote away". If Ron Paul gets 5 or 10% of the vote, and the Republicrat loses by less than that to his Demoplican opponent, then the two useless parties are going to have to face accommodating Libertarians or keep losing elections.

I agree with Marko - if there isn't a candidate that I can vote FOR, then I'll write in one that I'd be happy with - Ron Paul.

It's time to do our part to change the "two party" system. Only way to do that is to show other like-minded voters that there are some of us out there.

I'd have to vote for the candidate who could beat the Democrat and (hopefully) be held in check by the other members of their party.

I consider myself independant, but I just can't see Democrats doing anything positive with regards to the Second Amendment.

Can you see McCain or Giuliani doing anything positive with regards to the Second Amendment?

Voting for the "Lesser Of Two Evils" is still voting for evil. I have no problem with writing in non-evil.

Even though it is not getting much coverage in the media, we do have a coupld of good choices on the GOP primary ticket. It will take one hell of a lot of work to get one of these folks nominated, but it can be done. Then we won't have the "lesser of two evils", we will have a real candicate.

Why vote for the lesser of evils??

McCain or Giuliani? No, not by a longshot. I'm just hoping there would be some intra-party pressure on these guys to at least do no further harm.

Is it the lesser of two evils? Yes, but it's better than doing nothing.

Rustmeister,

Ususally I would agree with you on the point, but not this time. Kim's site has the link for David Kopel's site showing the 2A breakdown of the presidential canidates - Rudy is at the bottom of the list! I won't vote for McCain so I'd rather write in Ron Paul or someone else. When the Repubs figure out that the gunners won't vote for them - THEY WON'T CARE ANYMORE ABOUT THE 2nd ANYMORE!!! It will be like what the D's do to us now - nothing promised, nothing kept...

When all else fails, vote from the rooftops....

It's beginning to be a more and more attractive option.

Oh, I'm not talking Primaries. I always vote for who I want in those.

Tancredo would be one of my first choices. =)

LOL Kevin, I just followed your link!

If you live in a swing state, you should vote for the less bad of the two major party candidates, usually the R.

I live in california, so I can vote for whatever crackpot libertarian tickles my fancy with a clear conscience :)

I think it's nearing time to vote 3rd party.

I'll probably vote Libertarian just to take the vote away from whatever "centerist" the Republicans nominate...

In previous elections m@ I've done that.. not this time.

I did in the '06 election send some cash to a couple of the less obnoxious GOP candidates. Of course I've gotten requests from the party itself pretty regular since then. Every one has been mailed back, with big black latters saying "No Giuliani, no McCain"
The other week they mailed some shiny membership card I got to mail back cut into lots of little bitty pieces.

Hopefully enough others are doing the same thing that it'll sink in.

Regardless.. no. I'm not voting for Guilani if he runs against Satan himself.

Do you "lesser of two evil" people realize that you're precisely the reason things have gotten so bad? Not only are you delaying the inevitable, but you're making the likelihood of righting the ship go down with every passing generation of idiots being reared. It's like y'all have decided the best treatment for a junky is to act like the problem isn't more than just a small inconvenience and hope they figure out how to quit heroin on their own. What's worse, most think they're some kind of a damn patriot because they waddle their lard ass on down to the polls and vote for some improvident addle-pate that couldn't tell you what the 10th Amendment is if you tattooed it on his or her clammy, gray arm.

You can get a lot more done with "there's got to be a better way" thinking rather than "I guess we have to do it their way, even though I know it's wrong in between commercial breaks when my brain sort of works" thinking. Christ, go ask a five year old if you need such basic level of moral guidance when faced with important decisions.

I believe Kim also has some information regarding how many gunnies actually vote the 2A as their primary focus.

It's a lot less than you think...somewhere less than a million nationwide.

Here are the numbers for 2004

Bush
62,040,606
Kerry
59,028,109
Nader
411,304

Gunnies would only affect the election in an extremely close election if it came down to the last swing state.

Neither party gives a rat's ass about us.
