Well, isn't that a peach?

There goes every shred of respect I had for John "I Want To Retire In A Braves Uniform" Smoltz.

And an American League team, to boot... Couldn't he have done something more dignified, like midget wrestling or voting Democrat?

(A very grudging and surly H/T to Al.)

WOO-HOOO! Man, Boston can always use more pitching, and I'm glad to see Smoltz decide he'd rather win another championship in his waning years.

Reader help: I am a Red Sox fan.

Being a Red Sox fan and having five bucks in your pocket will get you a latte at Starbucks.

Being a Cubs fan and having five bucks in your pocket means the same thing, except you can still mutter "wait till next year".

:D

I know what you mean, Tam...us Indians fans just went through C.C. "I Want to Swing the Bat and Play Close to My West Coast Home" Sabathia signing with the @!!&&$* Yankees. Coulda lived with him signing with the Dodgers, Giants, or Padres no problem, but nooooo, hadda be the @!!&&$* Yankees.

Midget wrestling? What ever happened to dwarf tossing? Saw it one time.
Everybody, including the dwarves, had a really good time, the short fellows made a s--tload of money, normal-highted folks got the chance to drink and socialize with them, and discover they weren't any different than the rest of us except for overall length. Screw P.C.

Ken, you're just mad the Yankees win a world series every 3.65 years on average.. ;)

But... but... signing with an AL team? Couldn't he have just taken a job playing piano in a whorehouse instead?

Re: CC Sabathia. I don't think you can call that an accurate parallel. Sabathia's played for three teams in eight years. Smoltz was a rookie with the Braves when I was still a teenager; he has pitched for them (and only them) for the entire time I've been a baseball fan...

Boston needs pitching though - although as a lifelong Dodgers fan, I'd imagine it's as jolting to you as it was to me seeing Orel Hershiser in an Indians uniform.

As a Boston fan, my first thought was "This pleases me."

We can always use a good pitcher.

At least, he went to Boston, the city the Braves originally played in.

I suppose it's not a perfect parallel, but Sabathia broke in with the Indians. Would've been nice to see him overcome his playoff yips in a Tribe uniform. Plus, some of us are old enough to remember Chris Chambliss, Graig Nettles, and Dick Tidrow, back when the Indians were run like the Kansas City A's, an unofficial Yankees farm team.
