Well, he's got the important qualifications covered.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the newest senator from Massachusetts is a Democrat whose last name begins with a "K".

  1. He was the swimmer's handpicked successor. There'd be more bodies in the bay if it had gone any other way.

  2. What I find disturbing is that every media story I have seen refers to the position as "the Kennedy seat."

Have these people no shame? Oops, sorry, never mind. What I meant to ask was, have they no consciousness of the need to at least simulate propriety and respect for the traditions of the republic? What were the various and sundry nonentities there prior to Teddy - mere placeholders? Was it known in those dim days as "The Seat That Will Be Kennedy's?"

I haven't heard yet if the new Honorary Kennedy was required to extract a sword from a stone and anvil. We should hope so - there must have been some suitably spectacular way to demonstrate one's bona fides.

  3. He'll serve for a couple of months and get a lifetime retirement income. Sweet deal.

  4. Zendo - its worse than that. While he might get some retirement package the real benefit to him is that he gets a lifetime pass through the Senate doors. Why is that important? His real job is as a lobbyist for the healthcare industry. So, he plays along with the Pres and he gets a LIFETIME PASS TO LOBBY THE SENATE? Think about how much that is worth to him! As a Mass resident I'm absolutely disgusted with how this has turned out.

  5. When you say he has the important qualifications covered...

You mean to say he's got a wealthy Dad, a few scandalous stories involving his behavior with females, and a history of substance abuse?

I'll leave you all to the obvious there, as it's very possible the twain shall meet...
