Attention Californians:

Buy your pre-ban unregistered assault televisions now, before your state's energy commissars hand down their ruling in November and you have to smuggle them in from Nevada the way you do handgun ammunition and cigarettes.

I used to subscribe to David Horowitz's Hetrodoxy magazine throughout the '90s and on the back page there was a fictional news story with a politically correct them.

This actual news story reads like something from the back page of Hetrodoxy.

Why Californians chose to accept this tyranny is beyond me.

Just more substantiation for, "Ignorance is no excuse for a law."

The California legislature appears to be in competition with the U.S. Congress in cornering the market on ignorance.

Unfortunately, what happens in CA today happens to the rest of us tomorrow.

Lorimor,

Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

California's gun laws have been getting worse and worse, while in most of the rest of America, they've been getting better and better.

Funny, there was a news piece recently in the paper here that flatscreen TVs are very energy hungry, and raising people's electricity bills... the figures I've seen are 1.5-3 times as much for the same size screen, but since people often buy larger screen flat tvs it can escalate to 5-6 times as much.

Actually, this is probably a law that's been pushed out by manufacturer/retail lobby groups with politicians in their pockets.

If you take the alleged $30 savings per set per year (the article Og linked to said "in the first year", but I don't know why it would be any more or less in the second and subsequent years) and the 15 cents per KwH that is the average residential retail price for electricity in CA, it looks even more ridiculous: It amounts to 16.7 KwH savings per month per set.

I used over 2,000 KwH of 'leccy in August alone. This is a meaningless drop in the bucket for most people.

What it really comes down to is that California needs to build new power plants, and the powers that be don't want to.

Is Commie California still part of the United States? I feel their pain. If I lived there I would sell everything I own and move.
When will the people say "Enough"?

Those of us who keep trying to change the State keep running up against the whackos who keep getting "Free Stuff" from the government, and voting people like DiFi, Pelosi, and Boxer back in.

Wait a minute. People are paying their own hard-earned money for not only their TVs, but the energy to operate them.

Tell me why the gummit has any business interfering?

Let me guess, the real people behind it was none other than Hollywood. They got tired of people pirating DVD's and watching them on flat-screens. Now people will have to return to 8mm film distributed by THEM!1!eleventy

Does that mean we will be limited to 10 channel remotes????

The trouble with this sort of thing is that the California fruit-loops that caused this garbage are moving out of California en mass and taking the exact same crazy ideas that ruined California and demanding that they be applied to the State they're seeking asylum in.

Texas needs road blocks on the western approaches of I-10 and I-40 to turn back any cars with California plates and liberal bumper stickers.

And I was wondering why so many people were coming to Vegas from California.

Bastards can't drive worth shit, either.

My Sis and hubby moved to AZ from Silicon Valley. His start-up 'net business is still there. They live on a gravel road. She swapped her AWD for a Prius!
Are they still Demi/socs? Of Course!

wv= coucboop. Not going there.

The state's gerrymandered to H*ll to keep Democrat nutjobs in POWER. The rest of us are practically disenfranchised, but we keep trying!

Ulises from California

Ulises,

Tell you what: figure out a way to combine the crazy parts of Cali with Chicago(and its environs), and the sensible parts of Cali with the rest of Illinois (south of I-80/ West of IL-59), and we may have a two-state solution that represents the nutcases and the eminently more sensible members of society. The Chicago Democrats and the leftists therein have gerrymandered the crap out of this state.

Out of all the hills to die on, mine wound up in Illinois.

LawDog: If you guys'll help pay for 'em, I'd be happy enough to put those road blocks on the other side of New Mexico. I mean, you'll want a good buffer. (And I sure as hell don't want 'em to stop here!) Uh, sorry Arizona. Nothin' personal, y'know. ;)
