I've been a gun owner for my entire adult life, but it wasn't until the mid-'90s that I became a political gun owner.
At the time, we had CCW in Georgia, but for an ideal, there was that semi-mythical chimera known as "Vermont carry", whereby anyone who could legally own a gun could tote it, no permit required.
Then in 2003, it suddenly became known as "Vermont-Alaska carry", and then last year "Vermont-Alaska-Arizona carry" became too cumbersome, and so now it's just called "Constitutional carry", which turned out to be just in time, because "Vermont-Alaska-Arizona-Wyoming carry" would be way too much of a mouthful.

It's things like this that keep me from being completely negative...... that and my children .... and bourbon ..... and there's always bacon......

And I just applied for a job in WY...
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I live in AZ.
ReplyDeleteThat, and Chicago machine Politico/Joyce Board member/POTUS says 2A allows for carry of arms for personal protection...
ReplyDeleteThat's gotta sting.
Oddly enough, WV is asking me to type ensoc. Won't typing something as close as this to Engsoc?
cause your blog to explode?
ReplyDeleteConsidering the population of the Cowboy State, both in terms of numbers (lack thereof) as well as the typical political bent, I'm surprised they weren't quicker on the adoption of the whole bit.
ReplyDeleteAs far as Alaska goes, which is quite a distance actually, everybody here was carrying already. The State just made it legal.
ReplyDeleteAnd now, for the other 46!
ReplyDeleteUlises from CA
Heheheheheheh.... screw the Utopians. heheheheheheh
ReplyDeleteAnd apparently the House in Colorado just passed their half of a similar bill. Go Colorado Senate!
ReplyDelete(CO and TX going that way are the only way I'll see it here in NM.)
And someday, it may become known as 57-State carry.
ReplyDeleteOooooh! Maybe Wisconsin should pass a Constitutional Carry law while all the Democrats are out of the office.
ReplyDeleteServe 'em right. :)
You need a permit to carry a Constitution in public?
ReplyDeleteOk then. Ideas are dangerous.
A couple of bills have been filed to make New Hampshire a Constitutional carry state.
ReplyDeleteHowdy from Wyoming! Regarding the previous comment... I think we're just very deliberative and responsible. We understand the heavy burden that concealed carry places on a person. However...
ReplyDeleteIt is the duty of every American citizen to make crime dangerous.
Come on Colorado!
ReplyDeleteHow is it in WY carrying concealed from a practical perspective? Are you able to carry in most places a person would go? In AZ, I never bothered to get a CCW, because the vast majority of the places I would go would have a no-guns sign. I figured I'd be leaving my gun in the car all the time.
ReplyDeleteHere in TX, the carry laws are a lot more restrictive, but the only place I've seen a no-guns sign meeting the legal requirements is at a gun show.
Texas legislature, please copy...RIGHT NOW!!!!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, the next best chance we will have is in 2013...

ReplyDelete"It is the duty of every American citizen to make crime dangerous."
What a beautiful quote!
Hopefully in a year or two someone can sue to have the new Wyoming law invalidated because it does not provide equal civil rights between residents of >6 months and non-residents.
ReplyDeleteWe don't need a law granting Constitutional carry, we need no laws against Constitutional carry.
Until then, baby steps are OK.

ReplyDeleteWe're (Texas) an at will issue CHL state. You need to demonstrate an understanding of the law, gun safety, 21yrs old and legally able to own a gun i.e., not a felon.
http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administration/crime_records/chl/chlsindex.htm
Their not a big push to get away from this system.
We're working on getting full access for CHL on college campuses all public spaces. No ones hassled for transporting guns. The only restrictions to owning a gun are have a serous mental issue and being a felon.
A lot of gun owners don't see a need for OC in Texas.
Oh well,
Josh
Austin, TX
South Kackalacky is also considering Constitutional Carry.. Our Lady Governor is a shooter and an Indian-American (dot, not feather), so things are looking up.

Meanwhile, using the same tactics as libs planting their own subversives in tea party rallies to create racism "proof," the ATF is intentionally funneling thousands of guns to Mexican cartels. -Gee, if we can't show overwhelming evidence that citizens having access to guns in the US leads to drug violence Mexico, let's make sure we do what is necessary to ensure our slant becomes the truth.

Asshats.
Joshkie,
ReplyDeleteCompared to everyplace I've lived, TX has restrictive CCW laws: An expensive license, mandatory training, that ridiculous "qualify with a revolver, carry a revolver" thing, no guns in bars, if your shirt blows open in the wind you can lose your license...
Josh, you're right. I actually have a CHL here in TX, and I carry when I can. The nice thing about TX is the fact that someone wanting to forbid folks from carrying guns onto their property has to be very specific as to the format of the sign. I've seen a lot of signs on stores, etc that don't meet the criteria, so I'm still free to carry there.
ReplyDeleteThat's not so in AZ. There, the tiny little 3" square no-guns logo anywhere in the vicinity of the entrance is sufficient to force you to leave your gun in the car if you want to do business there. You have to be very observant everywhere you go if you want to remain legal.
As far as OC, the nice thing about having that be legal is if your concealed weapon gets accidentally exposed or prints under your t-shirt, you don't qualify for a visit from the po-po. For that reason alone, it's a worthwhile thing to pursue.
Bizarre to think that Washington has been shall-issue for nigh-on 50 years now, and is far more concealed OR open carry friendly than Texas, of all places.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you. I was just stating the climate in Texas.
I've never heard of of anyone losing the licenses over accidental exposure, but that's not to say it hasn't happened.
As to the licensing fee you have to realize we have no state tax, so the our fees are higher than the average about a 1/3 of quality handgun($400).
I perfur OC, and vote/work towards that end.
What the government gives on a whim can be taken a way on a whim,
Josh
Hello Everyone:
ReplyDeleteI live in Colorado. I'm keeping my fingers crossed in hope that the Democrats in the state senate are unable to block this bill. Reckon we'll see.
On a personal note, my recently-turned-eighteen daughter filled out her first ever 4473 last Friday. She walked out of my favorite gun shop with her OWN 10-22.....heh
Proud Papa.
Correction that wassuposted to say I perfur CC for Constitution Carry. Got OC on the brain.
