...not even a mother could love.

I had no idea that the Indy Red Star had actually penned a "Leave Brittney Lugar alone!" editorial. I wish one of their three remaining subscribers had pointed it out to me when it was still fresh so that I could have fisked it.

I mean, I don't want to come across all Pauline Kael, here, but I've yet to hear anybody, of any political persuasion, have a nice word to say about the man in my presence. How Lugar continues to get reelected is one of the more baffling mysteries of my adopted home state.

When I first read that I thought you typed "Luger".

To which I reread and realized you're talking about some politician who is exactly like all the others.

Remember of circles of Wookieness that you swim in.

Dick Lugar, while he may be the poster boy for term limits, has been around for a very long time for a reason. He knows how to win.

He ruined a perfectly decent last name.

Like Shooting Buddy said: despite being a poster boy for RINOs, Lugar knows how to win the Hoosier electorate like a boss.

I imagine farm pork is how he stayed in office so long. And he didn't used to seem like such a RINO.

That would suggest he's doing a politican's job #1; making 50%+1 voters or more satisfied with what he does.

As long as he's in the Senate, he's got a term limit - every 6 years he has to put on a dog and pony show to remind enough people that they like him better than the other guy.

Something about Senate incumbency makes one bulletproof. Neither dead girls nor live boys make a difference anymore. If I were a conspiracy theorist...oh wait... I am...

Funny, I could have sworn we turned out a bunch of the bums in the Senate last few times around...

He's slipped under the radar for years by pandering to/funneling money to the ag interests in Indiana...

Old NFO is correct the Indiana Farm Bureau is in his hip pocket but I'm not sure that's going to help him this time.

I've wanted him gone for some time and I think maybe, just MAYBE, the time has finally arrived for him to leave...

My first thought, before reading the link, was that you meant Karl Lüger, the mayor of Vienna who ran on an anti-Semitic ticket in the 1890s and early 1900s. When challenged about the number of Children of Israel in his administration, announced that "I decide who is a Jew." He too served multiple terms in office.

Actually, he did do one rather large service to the country with the Nunn-Lugar Cooperative Threat Reduction Program, which got rid of a hell of a lot of nuclear warheads and weapons grade material in the former Soviet Union. Considering the security for a lot of this stuff (nonexistent) after the breakup of the Soviet Union, that was a major good deed. However, that was in 1992...
