Randomness...

  • This morning, courtesy of my defective sound processing unit, I misheard my roomie when she asked if I would like a cup of fruit to go with my (bacon-wrapped!) Irish sausage. This led to a new game: Inventing authentic-sounding fake British breakfast dishes, inspired by "bangers and poot".

  • Interesting Tumblr from the sandbox. Worth a read. I'm not sure I quite grok Tumblr. I think it's like blogging only more... Hey! Let's go ride our bikes! (H/T to Joel at TUAK.)

  • It embarrasses me to no end that I do not know my own cell phone number. I plead the mitigating circumstance of never actually dialing it myself. (I'm also not one of those people that has her cellie with her at all times. When I'm at home and outside, it's usually inside, and when I'm inside, it's in another room.)

Don't worry about not knowing your own cell number. I don't either. In fact I taped a bit of paper on it with the number so I wouldn't have to keep looking it up on my phone when someone asks :P

My excuse is that I rarely call myself...

What's funny is that I know the number of, not only my current checking account, but my previous one as well, but my cell phone number just won't stick.

Wow, now I don't feel so bad for not having memorized the serial numbers of all the guns I own, my brain having absconded after about twenty.

I refer to Tumblr as "Twitter, but with pictures instead of words."

I thought I was the only one who didn't know their mobile number, I've got it written insde the battery cover in case anyone asks me for it.

Exactly so.

And yes, I have it written on the phone. Opaque tape over the company logo, write #, protect with clear tape.

Landline phones had provision for this from the beginning, why not cells?

I have a phone for emergency calls from my vehicle.

I gave the number out to an AAA operator once ... I got spam calls from a car maint. insurance company within five minutes of hanging up.

These days, I make a point of not knowing what that phone's number is. And I simply replace it once a year regardless.

At least you don't give out the number from TWO cell phones ago... sigh... Did that last week!

For fifteen years, I had a clunky coal powered cell phone: No camera, no apps, no thin line light weight do dad too easily lost.

Had a home charger, car charger, ear piece, extra batteries. The only thing it didn't have that I wanted for style points was a rotary dial.

As a gift, Bride bought me a new fancy phone. No idea what the number is. One thing for sure, the first thing I did was tape over the camera thingy.

Memory does strange things. I can remember my USMC rifle numbers, the price and size of a Butterfinger in 1938 (2 ounces, 5 Cents) every tag number I have ever had - all 17 of my business numbers, no two in the same block, the price of yesterday's lunch - but I cannot remember my home telephone number.

And I have only had it since September 17, 1957. The new wife insisted on it. She's not so new now, but I still cannot remember the home number.

I have no problem remembering my cell phone number. I just remember Mrs. Drang's number and add one.

My cell # is on a White Board on the Fridge at home, just in case EMS is handling something with the Wife God Forbid!) while I'm out and about. Other than that, most businesses get our Old School Land Line number with it's Answering Machine Screening.

Heck, I'm still trying to figure out how do Voice Search w/o saying "^^&$&%%$ many times do I need to repeat it, you stupid &*&&*&%&%$$!!!" to worry out my cell# anyway.

no cell phone, never had one, never will...
1 land line that i never call, so if some one wants the number i really have to think to remember what it is...
i get maybe 1-2 calls a week, sometimes none...
peace and quiet...
it's so nice...

Had to memorize the home phone number for first grade (back in the late 50s) and still can spit that out with no hesitation. Couldn't tell ya the cell number I've had for the past 5 years. Finally wrote it on paper, laminated it, and stuck it in my wallet - the wallet goes with me more than the phone does, most the time.

Took me about 6 months to remember my current cell phone #, Its one of the main reasons I haven't changed it after living in an area code 2000 miles away for 5 years.

(besides the whole gamble on whether the last person to have the number was a deadbeat or not...)

I've made it a point to always have it on me whenever I have my sidearm on. It'd really suck to not have it if someone made you shoot them...

Never used , twitter, facebook,or untill a year ago a cell phone. My wife pre-pays the G-D thing, but I "forget" it A LOT. never turn it on anyway. Don't know what an "app" is. Well gotta go find my mamoth spear. Ray

Ray,

It's hard to be an authentic Luddite in the comments section of a blog on, you know, the internet. ;)

Tam,

Someone mentioned the ICE number.

In Case of Emergency. What you do is you pick a number you want called if someone finds your phone, and you are unable to recommend a contact number. A car wreck, etc. I was told emergency providers look for a phone number on the cell phone (presuming the thing is intact and still working) of ICE, and will/may contact them to alert them you are in distress.

My (clunky, coal-powered) cell phone has ICE as one of the numbers.

I also have a listing for "My Number". Which I got off my cell phone statement. I figure if I have to look up my boss's number, I should not worry about looking up My Number.

YMMV.

Blessed be.

I have no idea what my cell number is. I never call it, and I don't give it out to people. I have a phone for my emergencies, not so other people can bother me.

I'm lucky in that we've had the same phone number for 55 years, so that's one less thing to drop out of my short term memory. Odd thing, I can remember the VIN of the '51 Buick that was our first family car. Not so odd, I can't remember where I'm parked. Oh, well, that's why I have an alarm on the car.
