- Having recently been tormented by a housefly, the idea of this anti-fly shotgun that uses table salt for ammo is intriguing. I wonder how it works on carpenter bees?
- Is there nothing that is beyond politicization these days? That just disgusts me. People on both ends of the political spectrum, most of whom couldn't spell "Sarajevo" if you spotted them everything up to the "j", are absolutely champing at the bit for a civil war.
- About this time last year, they were blowing levees along the Mississippi to save the remains of Cairo, Illinois from historic flooding. Now they're having to dredge to keep the thing navigable in the midst of an historic drought. Old Man River sure is fickle...
Books. Bikes. Boomsticks.
“I only regret that I have but one face to palm for my country.”
Completely off topic, but what sights are you using on your G19?
ReplyDeleteWouldn't expect anything less from ABC.
ReplyDeleteMother Nature is a real muthuh. And weather is fickle - the worst flood on the Republican River in Kansas came in 1935 in the middle of the great drought of the 1930s! It started in Colorado and damaged bridges, towns and ruined cropland all the way to eastern KS.

That bugasalt is freaking awesome.
ReplyDeleteThat's going on my short list for birthday wishes.
Seems to me that the first Civil War made others inevitable, because it established that joining the Union is like joining the Mob; there is no withdrawing from either once you're in. Thus there are no peaceful solutions for cutting the bitter Gordian knot we've tied ourselves into.
ReplyDeleteYou have the American people divided into two opposing philosophies of life, what might be loosely called Makers and Takers, and each determined that its philosophy should dominate. Thus the country lurches leftward, then rightward, at each election cycle, rather like a drunkard staggering down a sidewalk.
If there were provision in the Constitution for states to leave the Union, then perhaps the United States would divide into several different nations, based on the dominant philosophy of each. Perhaps California, Oregon and Washington could form a Left Coast Union; the Northeast might form another Left-oriented union; the upper Midwest might form another left-leaning country, and the rest of the remaining states (flyover country) would form a large right-leaning country.
It it better done peacefully, or with war, when we are so disinclined toward compromise?
David Codrea had a great link yesterday showing that Brian Ross is on the sex offender list. What? Wrong one you say? I'm sorry about that you liberal idiot pisswit.
ReplyDeleteLove the Bug-A-Salt. I'm wondering what it would do to wasps. I seem to have a lot of them this year. I feel a test firing coming on.
It goes deeper than Makers vs. Takers. The real conflict is Individualists vs. Collectivists. One believes that society exists to serve it's people, and the other that people exist to serve society. The two views are incompatible, and each side believes the other irredeemably evil. "A House divided against itself cannot stand..." and compromise only delays the inevitable.
ReplyDeleteThere wiil be war.
Yeah I'm wondering how well the Bug A Salt will do against yellow jackets that are a PITA around here.
ReplyDeleteBTW one of my first thoughts when I saw that video was you and your electric bug zapper on the porch with a pitcher of Mojito.
I imagine myself sitting at my patio set with a dirty plate from evening's dinner and some adult beverage and the bug-a-salt hunting over bait.
Rock salt used to be the standard load for stray dogs and pesky kids in the melon patch back in the day. Nothing new under the sun.
ReplyDeleteGreat link on the Brian Ross mess. What am I prepared to do about it?
ReplyDeleteI wrote ABC and told them they need to fire him because competent journalism is an important part of a democracy's healthy diet not to mention a news organization's daily operations.
Oh and I've been wearing my NRA cap loud and proud. In Berkeley.
And speaking of pesky kids, I once cought a couple pieces of birdshot while engaged in adolescent stupidity. When I got home, the old man wanted to know what the hell I was doing that would make somebody want to shoot me. Some things have in fact changed.
ReplyDeleteWingshooting carpenter bees is an exercise in frustration. I was using .22 ratshot out of a Ruger Single-Six, and even that little load sounded like a cannon in a quiet suburban neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteA Second American Civil War would probably be like the Argentine "Dirty War" of the Seventies--I don't think the officer corps of the armed forces relishes rallying to the colors in a nuclear armed hyperpower.
ReplyDeleteKidnappings, assassinations, bombings, and it might be fair to say that one side's already started, in the form of the Occupy movement, at least if the crime and assault is anything to judge. How often do you hear about TEA movement members being involved in assault or vandalism? Compared to Occupy? How many times has a TEA party rally involved passing the word to bring skateboard helmets, gasmasks, and trash can lids? Occupy doesn't just march to put forward their point of view, they have already actuall broken up meetings of people whose politics they don't like. They're already conducting low-level operations. Remember the cops in Madison, Wisconsin, standing aside with smiles on their face as Leftists shut down the state government?
We're kinda sorta already at war, and one side's inflicted pretty much all the damage.
The Left is already behaving, and orgaizing, as if this is a war. I have zero desire to ruled over by such vermin. We're going to have to come to an understanding with them about how we can share this country, and most of it, if the Constitution is to be respected, will have to cosist of telling the Left, "No!"
One side's shown restraint, the other is a bunch of miserable tantrum throwning brats who want to vote for a living. "We win, they lose", will probably have to come into play at some point.
Bug A Salt looks neat. I wonder if I could lay my hands on granualized Sevin dust, I can think of nastier things to shoot with it than houseflies.

Can someone keep Mayor Bloomberg from seeing BugASalt? Salt (he hates it - except on his pepperoni pizza) and gun (hey, if he can ban spring-driven BB guns...) = outlawry!
ReplyDeleteBug-A-Salt looks good, but SturmR and Co are 'prolly 'gonna copy it. So, I'd say wait till after the recall.
ReplyDeleteGrowing up, my father would regale me with tales of his hunting insects with his father. What did come up one time was his tale of using a shotgun with "super-fine" shot to hunt dragonflies. I have no idea if the tale is true, as my father was (and is) quite the joker, but it was a neat little story he'd tell.
ReplyDeleteOf course, after actually trying to catch dragonflies with a butterfly net (you were awesome Grandpa), I sure wished I had a .410 loaded with "bugshot."
-Kresh
Too bad that the Bug-a-salt has the #markofevil on it.
ReplyDeleteFirst you blow, then you dredge - it's like a sinus or something.
ReplyDeleteApparently there is an airgun mod available. Linky I wonder if it could be adapted to a semi auto co2 gun? You know, so I can have a tactical rapid assault anti fly weapon.
ReplyDeleteI think I'd try an air rifle and mount my old NCSTAR red dot scope on it just for lulz.
Somehow in typing this I am getting out my wallet.
I've got two of the Bug-A-Salt shotguns pre-ordered. I'll be happy to review them. My first thought was similar to yours: "I wonder if it will knock down wasps?"
ReplyDeleteLooking at the signs and portents, if we have a "civil" war the most likely trigger of that catastrophe would be an Obama loss, coupled with loss of cloture clout in the Senate.
ReplyDeleteWith few good youthful Presidential candidates of caliber coming up, the Left would face a generation of being out of power and out of control. And of course no real prospect of achieving a totalitarian "Workers Paradise."
Historically, those on the political left are better bomb throwers than losers. Especially those who believe in end-stage socialism.

ReplyDeleteObummers already pulled this with McLame awhile back.
Stranger, I think you are spot on.
