The hills are alive with the sound of... crickets.

So, you heard all over the national news about the rape/robbery massacre that was thwarted by the college student with a gun, right?

Right?

*crickets*

I guess you only get to hear about it when the bad guys win. Makes you wonder just who the newsies were cheering for when they played cops-and-robbers as kids...

"NEIGHBOR KILLED, GUEST SHOT BY FRIEND IN HOME HANDGUN TRAGEDY

Once again, Atlanta saw proof that a handgun in a home is far more likely to injure acquaintances and friends than strangers. In College Park last night, a party at the home of college student Charles Bailey ended in tragedy. Police say that two men, including Calvin Levant, a neighbor, may have come to the party uninvited. During the confusion following their arrival, party guest (Prominently Displayed Name) apparently thought that Levant had made advances to (Name's) girlfriend.

Guest grabbed a pistol he had brought and began firing at the men. They ran from the party, Levant jumping out a window to escape the gunfire. Levant was shot at least once, and died as he tried to return to his nearby home. People nearby said that Levant's last words were requests for someone to call the police and to help him.

A young woman, also a party guest, was shot several times. She remains hospitali2ed.

Levant's family and friends were shocked and horrified. A friend told reporters that Levant would never have gone to the party if he had thought he wasn't wanted, and certainly would have left if he had been asked."

How's that? I only took two Journalism classes.

Wow, staghounds, you're disturbingly good at that. You should never use this power for evil.

Staghound,

you only forgot to mention he was an honor student and a choir boy.

Otherwise great job.

You should read the comments on the news report. Somebody's defending the lead-recipient.

"I UNDERSTAND ALL THAT ALL I AM SAYIN IS THAT WHAT WE THINK DOESN'T MATTER AND I NEVER SAID MY FRIEND WAS RIGHT. HE WAS WRONG AS WRONG CAN BE BUT HE PAID FOR IT AND SHOULD BE LEFT TO REST. IM GLAD NO ONE ELSE GOT HURT BUT HIM CALLIN HIM SCUM?...... HE HAS A MOM, FRIENDS AND FAMILY 2 THAT LOVE HIM UNCONDITIONALLY AND DON'T WANT TO HEAR THAT."

Kinda flies in the face of the ABC hit piece "If only I had a gun". Happily, one of these survivors doesn't have to ask himself that question.

Makes you wonder how on Earth he was able to thwart two thugs when ABC's piece clearly showed that when faced with these circumstances, you can't possibly get good shots off and the bad guy always knows who has a gun?

Yes a choirboy[1] and an honor roll student[2].

But also a star athlete[3] who attended church[4] and was looking forward to attending college[5].

1. When he was seven.
2. For one semester; in the sixth grade.
3. Before he quit school at 15.
4. When he was sober.
5. As soon as he finished his GED.

Reporters should check the medical examiner's death report: nearly 80% of homicide victims test positive for narcotics. Choir boy indeed!

It takes less time and expense to report on crimes when all victims are dead and therefore poor news sources and the alleged perps can't be identified.

Duly twittered.

I suspect that no one's last regret was ever "I wish I had been unarmed..."

Second least often occurring last thought, "I wish I'd spent more time at work..."

Third rarest, "I wish I'd had less sex..."

Tam, I'm stealing this, and will post in a couple of days. Then someone else can do so a couple of days later, and hopefully we can see it keep rolling into the summer, always on top of someone's blog. The gun grabbers can keep a story warm forever like a crock pot, why can't we.

Vaarok, I only looked at the first set of comments, which were pro-defender. I knew there'd be some fool bemoaning the death of his friend/cousin/community organizer eventually. And they always bring up leaving the family alone to grieve. How many family members read comments on online articles about their hoodlum blood, unless for a weird pride?

I wonder how long before they go digging in the defender's past for salacious stuff to run him in the mud like they did Miss California, Plumber Joe, and Gov. Palin. You know, you can't do something that upsets the left's theories without some bad juju coming your way. But we're the uncompassionate ones ...
