I trancribe with exactitude from the auction bill:
"Mauser ModelK98K 709 mm rifle."
The USS New Jersey, by comparison, sports wimpy little 410mm naval rifles. I'll bet that Mauser needs a thick recoil pad...
(The Mauser is, of course, 7.9mm...)

They couldn't control the airspace over Britain to invade it by sea, and that goofy centipede cannon was causing headaches (and freaking Kennedys kept flying into it like moths), so they figured they'd just build an enormous mauser to lob shells at mean, smug mr. Churchill.
"Excuse me, I need to buy 7.9mm ammunition for this gun my uncle left me in his will. No, I don't want 8mm. I want the bullet to be able to fit down the barrel; how dumb do you think I am?"
Damn, and I thought the 1918 T-gewehr was huge. Suppose that comes wiht a sling, or a cart?
Hmmm. Perhaps Mauser had a smaller-caliber competitor to Schwerer Gustav?
Back when the History Channel was just such & not the lair of the ice road & monster & ufo, there was an interesting show about some of the Third Reich's ideas. One included a massive tank with a turret for the Dora; another a battleship with multiple turrets for the 80cm Krupps.
Interesting typo on the Mauser, though. Kind of like the Glock & Wesson 45mm.
Ah... those pesky decimal places strike again :-)
Right now someone's thinking about necking it down to .22.
".22 Jet 'o Gas Magnum!"
Wimpy 410mm naval rifles?
BWAAAAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!
Tears. Fo real.

Dang. Must come with a pretty big stripper clip, too.
But imagine if the MG-42 was in 709 mm!

1200r/min?
That'd be a siesmic event. Both at the launching and the impact area.
Given a piece like that I suppose the proper threat would be, "Hands up, or I'll make you be in the same time zone when I fire this thing!"

Personally, I've always wanted one of those needle-guns that show up in news articles or the local classifieds.
You know, the ".9mm" pistols...
Tam, a lot of fresh faces over at my little place, and I thank you.
To answer your question, 709 mm translates to 27.91 inches (but you knew that).
Respectable enough in itself, though the ammo marketers would round it up to 300 caliber. Close enough, dontcha know, and sounds a lot more macho.
Then there would be a magnum version, and you absolutely need it to to take that mulie.
Seismic Event?
Hell, it could cause Anthropogenic Plate tectonics.
Is that a straight wall or bottle neck case?
