"But the guy who owns that stove, in that crumbling little cabin, on that creepy plain of mud, I don’t know him from Adam. I don’t owe him anything except what one human being honorably owes another – which includes that I should leave his stuff alone." -Joel at Joel's GulchThis would be a better world if more people learned the simple joys that can be derived from Minding One's Own Business and Keeping One's Hands To One's Self.

Now if only the Gooberment could learn that lesson....
Good post.
I'm fortunate to have stumbled upon a place to live where many leave their houses unlocked, keys in vehicles, and there's very little theft.

When I came into this world, I got a name from my Daddy and it was worth what he made of it.
When I leave this world, all I'll leave of any real value is my name, and its worth will be what I make of it.
I hope that'll be something that will make my daughter proud, but my life ain't over yet, and any day I can screw up what I've spent a lifetime tryin' to do right.

Like Temple Grandin, and my Dear Dead Mom, and Lazarus Long, I am all for formal manners. They help us to avoid un-necessary fights.
