Automotif XI...

Summertime in SoBro again...

After returning from the range yesterday, I pedaled over to Twenty Tap for a steak salad and a pint of Upland's Lightwave. Parked up near 54th and College was this tastefully restomodded '62 or '63 Mercury Meteor:

Blues out in front of The Jazz Kitchen: I could see myself behind the wheel of this san-o Sixties Merc.

Sweet ride. Always loved the old mercs. I was particularly fond of the old Monterey and Montclair trim levels. Loved that goofy roll up back window.

A friend in high school had a Mercury Comet. Excuse me while I do some time traveling at my desk.

Had a Mercury Monteray. Neatest rear window. 390 big block. That car did move.

Very nice. I saw a 64 Merc Caliente the same color last week. It was beautifully done.
Ya never did see many of those and now they are as rare as hens teeth.

I've had a '63 Comet for years, but I doubt it will ever look as nice as that Meteor, very nice car.

And it costs only what, a half dollar to start it?

Gorgeous old Merc. My government teacher in high school had one like that in beige. Dad owned a '61 Galaxie that was a one-owner trade in '85 that was nearly showroom fresh. Incredible cars from the early Space Age.

Wonder if it had the push button transmission?

Having personally enjoyed being airborn behind the wheel of my Mom's late 70's Comet, and having known someone who owned a 1960's Galaxy, all I can say is the Space Race produced some wild and crazy spin offs.

TW: ancient taofsin. More modern tao of sin not nearly so interesting.
