Damnit! That's just up the road a bit, but I'm already otherwise engaged.

Crap, I'm working! And you're going to be THAT close? gotta come into the city and try out the food in "China"(Vietnam)town. Golden Phoenix has WICKED Peking duck. Fung's Kitchen is great too, but mind they have 2 menus, look at both. If you're feeling cheap then Lee's Sandwiches is the way to play, or Pho Lien Hoa, or perhaps Pho Cuon if you want noodle soup. No buffets were mentioned in this post.

Hey, Hey, HEEEY!

Don't conflate CHEAP with poor quality. An old Vietnamese GF took me to a Lee's and we got some sammiches with liver pate on them. She told me the ingredients because I abhor the whole, "Gotchya!" game it seems like some folks like to play.

Liver pate by itself ... Oh, HELL NO! On a LEE Sammich ... There's pate on this? It was a good sammich.

Do NOT try the durian ice cream. Bad things, very very bad thing. Seriously, the ICE CREAM is a lie ...

I'm not casting aspersions on any of the "cheap" places in the city. I love them all or I wouldn't recommend them. I would have gone for the grilled pork or grilled chicken sandwiches at Lee's though, though I've tried the one you're talking about and liked it just fine. sometime I have to try one of the ice creams though, I think they have kiwi right?

Also my bad experience was with a "bubble tea latte" it was purple and had black tapioca balls in it. The tapioca didn't bug me but they didn't say what it was. The western mind sees "purple" and the western mind thinks "grape". this was NOT grape. It did not taste purple, it tasted BROWN. The shock left me very unhappy with the drink and now that I know it I don't mind, but I'll still take pineapple over it any day.
