Just not cut out for a life of crime.

In the sleepy burg of Lafayette, Indiana last Friday, one Sheryll Adams woke up in her room at the Tippecanoe Villa assisted-living home and asked her friend if she'd like to go shopping at WallyWorld. Her friend answered in the affirmative, and Ms. Adams summoned a taxi.

En route to the Walmart, the taxi driver was requested to make a stop at the bank. He did so, and Sheryll toddled in and apparently robbed the joint before... you guessed it ...toddling back out to the cab and continuing her shopping trip with her friend.

Her life as a criminal mastermind only lasted a few minutes before the po-po pulled her getaway cab over. Since she had stuck up the bank armed with nothing more dangerous than harsh language on a slip of paper, the arrest was uneventful, but probably somewhat startling to the cabbie.

Who says all the fun happens in big cities?

I bet the cabbie got stiffed for the fare...

What? I am sure she'd have a nicer, and more economical, stay at a min. security prison than your typical old folk's home.

So now she gets to collect all of her social security rather than having most of it go to the assisted living people, while the taxpayers still foot the bill for her upkeep at the state funny farm.

And the girls will all come out to visit, because she's such a celebrity. Call it a 1,000% increase each in both disposable income and prestige.

18 months from now, when she's paroled and back in assisted living, she'll miss the lifestyle.

How long before the movie rights are optioned? Yes, this was short, but someone's going to write a script about little old ladies in homes robbing banks...

I was on my way home and saw the apprehension. It was weird.

*I* wonder how long it took to Police to figure out Mr. Cabbie wasn't in on it. Poor bastard.

From my observation, immediately. He was sent walking down the road while they surrounded the old ladies behind the cab.

A question of interest to me is, what percetage of the population will cry out that she shouldn't be punished, because of her age (not all that old), and the fact that "no one was hurt"? I mean, she only threatened serious bodily injury or death to the teller, what's the big deal?

Matt G,

I think she should be punished as a bank robber.

And a gnawing, screeching little daemon inside me says the bank manager should be prosecuted for being a spineless pushover, but that's just me. ;)
