Well, gosh, how could that be?

The newscaster just said, and I quote:
"The gun control issue, which remains front and center ten days after the Newtown shooting..."
I... I... Look, it's not that I'm at a loss for words, it's rather the opposite: The tidal wave of potential retorts to that positively fatuous, completely self-unaware, pompous, faux-concerned piece of self-referential circular logic have simply logjammed in my Broca's area.

Most news readers would have difficulty passing a Turing test. One cannot have an informed, reasoned discussion with someone having the intellectual capacity of a broken record.

Ditto Chris.

It's front and center because - gosh-darn it! - we're GONNA have a national conversation about guns until you blood-thirsty killers admit that guns kill people, and the only way we're gonna be safe is to ban them! So there!

Damn it we will talk GUNS or else! What do you want us to do talk about the fiscal cliff Obama is taking us over? Now that is silly talk!

Let's see . . . constitutional election and vote rigging (really? this is my surprised face) in Egypt; terrible flooding in the UK; storms and avalanches in other parts of Europe; the massacre de jour in Syria;blizzards, fires, murders, births, Christmas baking contest winners, and the former Marine getting out of the Mexican hoosegow all are a lot higher up the news ladder than "gun control legislation." Sorry, newsie, you loose.

I think you are misunderstanding the context of the announcer's comment.

See, the media folk are still milking the story. That means it is "on the front burner", cause it still adds to their air time accumulation and to their year-end bonus.

The "news" has nothing to do with reality; it is about selling soap and building resumes.

The wacko just confused his little corner of issues with reality, again. That comes of letting the editor/boss dictate what is "real".

Sorry for your Brain Jam, Tam. But it's one of the side effects of "Know Thy Enemy." Variation of the "Fight or Flight" response is my guess. And since we can't reach through the Interweb and throttle those Bottom Feeders, well, "I Feel your Pain."

The question I have to ask is 'How much Political Help Went Into Stretching the Funerals Out This Long'? The last three children were laid to rest today. That's part of what's helping them keep the story on the front page. You hate to think cynical thoughts about something like that....but it's the way this 'conversation' is shaping up.

Greg,

It takes time to arrange funerals, there're only so many local funeral homes, and they can only have so many funerals a day.

No need for our side to join in the blood dancing.

Bubblehead Les: This is at least partially your fault, I thought you should know.

Hey folks, I don't know how credible the source is but here is a new report that shows violent crime in UK to be 5 times that of the US.

perlhaqr, thank you so MUCH for the earworm I'm going to be carrying around the next couple of days. (My relatives think I'm weird enough as it is.)

And dealing with the press and the gun-banners is like something that I finally figured out about conversing with my ex: "We're exchanging words, but only one of us is interested in communicating."

And now they have more fuel to keep the focus on guns for another couple of days. Two firefighters were shot and killed, and two others wounded, responding to a fire in Webster, NY this morning.

That's OK.

Your Werneke's area keeps whispering to you to throw these newsies into scorpion pits.

Ya might want to listen to it someday ...

I was contemplating getting one of these so that I could avoid the "Evil Black Rifle" description - a SIG 516 Patrol FDE with a Flat Dark Earth Cerakoted receiver with Flat Dark Earth molded parts:

http://www.sigsauer.com/CatalogProductDetails/sig516-patrol-fde.aspx

That minimizes the "evil", doesn't it? Or would walnut or birch furniture on it lessen the "evil"?
