- Now that Bengal tigers are about gone and sharks are getting seriously overfished, perhaps we could start a rumor in Shanghai that American feral hog livers will turn Mr. Whipple into Fabio.
- I seem to have fended off the actual sickness-type sickness, but the evil foreign yankee weed pollen has taken the opportunity to fill my sinuses. No joint aches, no fever, sore throat mostly gone, but my head feels inflated to 30psi.
- Why do I have a strange hankering for an FN 1910? It's a really elegant-looking little JMB design, but I need another .32ACP like I need a hole in my head.
- I am bad about cleaning my "heavy rotation" guns. My Marlin Papoose, K-22 Combat Masterpiece, ParaUSA LTC-9, and 2" Model 64 all pretty much live in my range bag. The blued K-22 gets a wipedown and bore swab after the range session, but for the most part, those four guns only get a real cleaning when they start having function issues. I feel bad about this and will try to do better, honest.
- Why am I telling you people this?

"American Liberal livers will turn Mr. Whipple into Fabio."
There. I fixted it.
You know that commercial where the guy wakes up and he's just this giant nose.
Yeah. That was my morning.
On the plus side, Goose Mountain today had a lot of ammo in. Expensive as hell, but it was nice to see things on the shelves.
...Tam thinx it is not actual sickness-type-sickness but since I'm about five days ahead on the illness ride, let me say for the record here: it's not pollen. Sore throat-sinus-fatigue is the same progression I had; I predict (with zero joy) she won't feel too hot tomorrow and Sunday, her sinuses will start to dry up late Sunday or Monday AM, then it'll taper off. Sux.
I once bought an old 5" S&W .38 Spcl.
from an old guy who told me that when they were done shooting, he took the stocks off and dropped the gun into a can of automatic transmission fluid. Sure enough, when I took it apart there was thin red oil on everything. While a bit extreme, simple enough.
I, too, have noticed the FN 1910, but have no need or use for such a thing. Really. Srsly. Not in the budget. I tell me three times.
I like getting out of the habit of cleaning every gun every day whether you shot it or not...
Not to say I'll go a year, or anything. I'm lucky to get to 3 range sessions. I figure it a process of growing.
I loves me my FN 1910. The sights are so minimalist that some people have actually shot the gun without noticing that it had sights. It's still fun to shoot, and has led to other .32ACP guns joining it in my gun locker. Besides, it was designed by the sainted Browning. What other reason do you need for owning one?
"Why do I have a strange hankering for an FN 1910?"
Especially strange since I picked up an FN 1910 at the local shop earlier this week (1920 manufacture, 90% finish) and I fully blame your "The Arms Room" blog for getting me interested in antique firearms.
So, thanks for the impetus! :)
Jimminy Johosafat. I'm gonna start selling Claritin on the street :-)
WV-Mation
K, guess I got the street name now.
RWC
Why an FN 1910? Because (a) it's a JMB design; (b) cool takedown on the 1910/22; (c) it's the first pistol to locate the recoil spring around the barrel, leading to the Makarov/PPK and such. With all of that, how is it that you don't already have one? : )
I know what you mean about 30 PSI, and I think it is Yankee pollen. I was raised a yankee and it still bothers me. It's been 9 -10 out of 12 all week. Today my head just feels inflated. Sore throat when I wake up and post nasal drop. Ears feel pretty clogged. But I never get sniffles, itchy eyes, or sneezing. I've thought it's not allergies too, but it's funny how it always clears up after the pollen count drops, and only seems to crop up early spring and late summer.
I made it through the early spring spike just fine this year (last year it got me pretty good).
The funny thing is that last year's late summer (ragweed) season didn't faze me at all; either it's enormously heavier this year or it took advantage of the fact that I was fighting off Bobbi's bug.
I think it's the glowebull warmeing. We're all gonna die. Or be really stuffed up, which can be worse.
OMG SWINE FLU! EVERYBODY PANIC! I call dibs on your guns.
Never use the term ".32ACP" in the same sentence with the phrase "like I need a hole in my head".
It's bad juju!
WV = "flastre"
The Frenchman won the race because his car was flastre than his opponents. :D
1) Allergies. I never used to have them, now I have a spring/summer pollen allergy that yields amazingly unattractive hives anywhaere a blanket touches me when I sleep under an open window. Bedroom window closed 9/1. :(
2) Holes in head. Tam, you may have to consider that another hole in your head could possibly outgas the overpressure you're currently suffering.
Tactical Hay-fever I trust!
Rishathra apparently only applies to hominids. We need to come up with a word for "nasal sex with plants"
Samsam
Meh. Except for CCW/HD guns I've pretty much stopped cleaning them unless I have a problem or I just feel like it. Other than running a boresnake through it, my 22/45 hasn't been really cleaned in years. Damn thing just won't quit.
Are you sure it's the Claritin doin' the talkin'? Or did you get into a really wicked batch of Gnaw Bones?
You must get a different type of Claritin than we get here in Salt Lake; I tried some of the stuff a year ago and it didn't have any effect on me at all, good or bad.
Montelukast Sodium (Singulair)has worked miracles on me in more climates than I can remember. It is a gamechanger.
I don't care what they print about "non-drowsy" on the Claritin label--when I can't sleep I pop one and it's lights out for the next 7-8 hours...
Old Squid.
Crank up the orbital mind control lasers ... Tam is questioning her need to blog.
Is not, either: I was cooking brekky. She was distracted by the aroma of processed pork products, good honest Pennsy fungii, taters, henfruits and so on and so forth.
She's off wheelin' and dealin' now. Outcome unknown.
PS: Joanna, you'll have to take the bullets first.
;)
Claritin is da bomb. (Does anyone say that anymore?)
Back in the bad old days, all we had was Contac, which put me to sleep. Helped with the hay fever but I was still miserable.
My eyes would be mattered shut in the morning and I was a walking snot factory even with Contac.
Through the years, nothing has come close to being as effective for me as Claritin.
Doesn't make me tell the world my most intimate secrets though. :)
Back when I had one gun I cleaned it after shooting, every time.
Now? (hollow laugh)
My 22 CZ is strange, in that it shoots 1" 5 shot 100m groups with inexpensiev S&B ammo, while Green Tags and other expensive stuff open up to two inches. Made the mistake of cleaning the barrel, took 50 shots for it to settle down again.
"Made the mistake of cleaning the barrel, took 50 shots for it to settle down again."
A lot of smallbore shooters won't scrub unless the gun stops shooting.
I've got an FN 1922 in my closet that ostensibly belongs to my father-in-law. I say "ostensibly" because, after many years of residence in my closet despite multiple requests to have it moved out, doesn't it become mine by default at some point?
