...Momma and I were having the raw back of the throat and sinus thing happening last night. Must be that time of year, huh.

I slammed down 1000 mg vitamin c (first thing I do if I even suspect a cold); seems to be holding it down.

I do 1000 mg 3-4 times a day, depending on how my stomach handles it.

Lay your head horizontal, 1 ear pointing straight up. Put a few drops of hydrogen peroxide in your ear. Let it sit for a couple of minutes. It will bubble some, which tells you either (a) you need some q tips, (b) it is killing what will make you sick later in the week, or (c) both.

If you feel better for a few hours after you do it, do it again in a few hours.

Seriously.

Sally went to her doctor yesterday for persistent stuffiness, and he said that this is the worst year for airborne allergens in a long time.

The weather gnome on TV was talking about record levels of ragweed and grass pollen, too.

You should expect things like that, nurse, the way you were you were hovering over Robert like a mother hen and all.

Hope the condition is allergies and temporary.

Tam, the sore throat is from drainage. Hit it from two directions.

First - saline nasal mist. Allergen or cold, it helps flush the crud in the sinuses that keeps re-igniting your reaction. The only thing better is a neti pot and neti wash - use a glass or special utensil to pour a cup of mildly warm water with 1/8th tsp non-iodized salt and 1/8th tsp baking soda up you nose. From each side. With your head tilted first down so it runs out the opposite nostril, then tilted up so it runs down your throat and out the mouth (don't want to swallow the crud or that much salt).

Almost as good is chicken soup with lots of chicken fat. The chicken fat irritations the sinuses, causes them to run and flush the crud, breaking the re-igniting cycle.

From the inside. Fiber. Roughage. Oatmeal, or better yet, psyllium husk (the part of metamucil that does you some good, after you take out the sugar and flavoring). 1 tsp psyllium husk/day - no one likes surprises, more is *not* better.

I also found psyllium husk is very comforting with food poisoning, with nausea and full system flush running both ways. It locks up lots of mucus and caustic crud in the digestive tract.

If you get to the fever part, remember to jump-start digestion with acidophilus or yogurt.

I found that paper towels are course when blowing my nose - but don't cause the microabrasion and irritated skin that I get from facial tissue (which is made to scrape makeup off skin).

A nap is about as good for chills and headache, many times, as an aspirin. I like Alka-Selzer Plus Cold - it lightens symptoms, without altering reality like Nyquil.

Take care!

The list of really bad things that start out with "Flu-like" symptoms makes one weak in the knees. You should probably call the CDC, the WHO, your undertaker and lots of other people, it could be Anthrax, or SARS or who-knows-what! Of course, it could just be a cold. Kinda starts the same--hard to tell until it gets worse.

Stay well.

My wife brings me presents of that sort home from the ER, on occasion.

Hope you feel better soon.
