RX: "That's what those two-tone emergency sirens are actually saying: 'Spi-der! Spi-der!' That's why whenever one goes by, all the little spiders stop what they're doing and look up. And then when it's gone past, they start to bark."Barking spiders? It must be the hairspray fumes or something.
Me: "They what?!?"

Wrong country for barking spiders.
Spiders bark here all the time. Usually caused by milk, not sirens. Trust me: Bark, worse than bite.
Holy crap, you mean that there really ARE barking spiders??? (And not Venezuelan, either.)
That's certainly better than certain other things that could be wafting from the bathroom ;)
Oh, they're real all right. The ones on my last ship used to hold contests to see who could have the loudest and longest bark. It was horrible to behold...
Jim. I suspect your ship had the same kind of "barking spiders" that my ships (CV-67, CV-59) had. And their breath is just terrible...
Barking spiders also inhabit Army barracks, and are most likey heard after a Friday night party.
"Wafting from the bathroom" unfortunate phrasing there :).
I believe you are talking about arachna flatula. Many of this genus are know to have a noxious odor as a defense mechanism.
I use hairspray. Fat lotta good it does me.
--As for barking spiders, I swear I had no conscious intent to reference the humorous euphemism -- but the image may have been influenced by it due to the room I was in. Mostly it was Tam's fault for leaving a big collection of Charles Addams cartoons in the loo.
We had Barking Spiders at Boy Scout Camp in Florida some 30+ years ago.
