Bummer.

Iggle Crick is closed this weekend. My only other choice for shooting anywhere nearby would be Popguns, but it's halfway across town and their small indoor range is likely to be packed today. I may drive out there tomorrow anyway, because I already missed a week shooting last weekend and I can feel myself getting rusty, but it'll be pistol only; maneuvering a carbine in those confined spaces is more hassle than it's worth. It looks like the M&P15-22 is going to remain unfired for another weekend...

I really should spring for a membership at Marion County Fish & Game. Sure, it's shotgun/pistol/rimfire-only, but it's fairly close and it's a nice facility...

If I lived near, I would go for that membership myself. Nice range, and darn nice people. Weekdays the place is mostly empty and you can shoot as you like (within the rules). Their steel matches and bowling pin matches are a ball too.

Damn those new Post Office hours!

Fish & Game sounds great. I'm guessing it's not quasi-gov based on the open support of all gun and protection rights and not just sport shooting?

And I want me one o' them firemarms!

Just drove over to the local gun shop/pistol range in the hopes of converting some green pieces of paper into smoke and noise. Couldn't even find a parking place and the pop pop coming from the range sounded like a roofing crew going hell for leather. Normally from the lot it sounds like somebody is down in the basement occasionally smacking a board with a hammer.

Sigh....I need to get myself a place out in the sticks.

I hate to sounds jealous, but if your big problem today is the the other range is halfway across town, then the problems are small.

Here, there are only two ranges, the indoor place is $18/hour and the outdoor place is an hour one way.

Just sayin'....;)

Heh. I guess it would be poor form to mention that I just got back from my gun club (10 minutes/4 miles away) where I shot rifles at 50 yards and pistols at 25 feet...

The AK's not bad with iron sights at 50 yards; the 10/22 is pretty well dead-on; and the S&W model 27 at 25 feet isn't even a challenge...

My local range shared the building with a roller skate rink. No joke, kind of quaint. It just burned to the ground, ouch!
We lack facilities, this really hurts. I'm sure all conjecture is open and might be valid viz a viz the lightning which struck.
Still, such a bummer...

mc,

I kind of like the idea of a range with a Wurlitzer organ playing.

And zombie targets drifting past bobbing and spinning in time to the music in a big loop for the whole firing line to perforate.

Heh...

BG,

That would've been very cool, new business ideas are coming out of the ashes like--well, what's the plural of phoenix?. It was well isolated, I think the owner said Detroit steel or armor(?) or some such company did the range and trapping system. It was amusing to see the children entering en mass for birthday parties and such and then get to blasting and/or looking through the shop at the consignments.
Darnit, that's a real hit, truly stinks to lose that.

I got to shoot today. Nothing burned to the ground.

I cheerfully waited the hour for a lane to open up at NRA HQ Saturday, so I could spend an hour bonding with my father and brother.100 yards and a backstop rated to .460 Weatherby Magnum. Class 3 users must show paperwork to the RO; and I am pretty sure someone had one on the line while we were waiting. Took the opportunity to go cyclic with my semi while I could :)

Facility? Facility? We don't need no steenking facility.

I don't think I've ever fired a gun in anything that could be referred to as a "facility", but living in the Inland Northwest is apparently very different from living over there. -- Lyle

"Facility" means it stops working when the electrons stop bumping down the line; IMHO. I've shot in a "facility" (The NRA's is by far the nicest), I've shot at a pile of dirt next to the Mattaponi River. Haven't ever shot in conditions between.
