I Just Want To See The Boy Happy...

Ed Morrissey speculates on the likelihood of an independent presidential campaign from the only man in the world with a larger ego than Roger Waters, NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Considering that a run by Bloomberg would do nothing other than Bull Moose the Obama vote, well, from your lips to God's ears, Mr. Morrissey...

The downside to this, of course, is that it would nearly guarantee the election of whichever one of the sideshow freaks currently on offer eventually wins the Republican scrum, even if they ran Jo-Jo the Dog-Faced Boy as veep. Unless they nominate Romney, in which case that I predict that "None Of The Above" wins the popular vote by a three point margin due to complete voter apathy.

What's sad is I haven't voted FOR a presidential candidate since the first time I voted in a presidential election (Reagan in '84). Since then, I've been voting AGAINST whoever was the bigger doofus.

Hell, Bob Dole is the reason I'm a registered independent. Leave it to the R's to put up the one man that couldn't beat Clinton. its not that I thought that he was a bad guy, but I'm convinced the only reason Bob even ran was because it was "his turn".

Romney, Obama, and Bloomberg are all on the ticket next Nov. Which Liberal Democrat do you vote for of the 3 and why?

I vote for Obama because he has been the most gun friendly in his policies.

Whoops, I see it was a hit for Annette Funicello, and not just something weird that William Shatner said.

You lost me. What was a hit for Annette Funicello?

Saddly it looks very strong that I'll be voting for Obama in November. Really, its come to this...

At this point, I'm tempted to just pack it in... I've voted in every election since I was old enough, and this time there is NO GOOD CHOICE!

@Tam: Jojo the Dogfaced Boy. I didn't realize he has his own Wikipedia page and hit song by Annette Funicello.

The one thing I don't get is, who exactly is Bloomberg's constituency?

Usually when I think of an independent presidential run, I think of someone who already has a big personal following. Palin, Paul, Nader; they've all got a base of fans who are more about them personally than their party.

But Bloomberg? Sure, I get the monebags thing. He could finance his campaign, plus the other two running against him, with change he found in his couch. But who exactly is Bloomberg's loyal base? Hell, can you even identify three or four people who don't reflexively gag whenever they hear his name?

Nurse Bloomberg's constituency will be the northeastern RINO's, business/banking Democrats and people who are pissed off that Barry hasn't done a better job on the economy.

Barry will still have his coalition of racial bigots, poverty pimps and frumpy harridans.

Romney will be trying to get the Magic Underwear vote, along with trying to bamboozle the conservative base of the GOP.

Put all that aside for a moment and consider this, since Tam's blog is gun/RKBA oriented and most of us reading it are of a like mind on RKBA:

There is no "lesser" evil if this race comes down to Romney/Obama/possibly Bloomberg. ALL of these idiots are anti-gun, and two of the three are willing to break the law in pursuit of their anti-gun schemes.

Bloomburg as Prez? If that ever happens, I'd have just one question: How much does Putin charge for a Visa?

Obama, Romney, Bloomberg. Three of a kind and we all lose.

Why can't the R's find someone that the people can support and could beat the big O.

I agree with this analysis, but one of the Dem party operatives I know (I live inside the beltway) keeps saying that a Bloomberg run would be bad for the Republicans. I don't see it. But then again, I think the Dems are scared and will say any stupid thing at this point.

At least Jo-Jo the Dog-Faced Boy would bring out the Wookie vote.

Perhaps we need a none of the above win. I doubt that the lack of a chief executive for 4 years would cause a collapse of civilization. Congress could still pass laws, they would just have to build and maintain coalitions capable of overriding the automatic pocket veto.

"How much does Putin charge for a Visa?"

Two bottles of top-shelf vodka and a carton of American cigarettes. Payable to the clerk behind the front desk, who will "take care" of everything for you. Include a pair of Air Jordans and an iPod if you want things "expedited".

Wouldn't it be a hoot to see Bloomberg run as an independant. Crap, we should get Howard Stern to do the same thing at the same time. Then all of NYC would be busy while the grownups were voting. Not that ti would help, anyway.

My ballot would likely not count due to vomit stain. And, yes, I include the electronic variety.

Wow.

While part of me says, let Bloomie blow a pile of his ill gotten fortune on a failed ego boost (since he may have to cut back on the sec detail and running illegal "stings" at fun shows) I think there's a lot of otherwise useless idiots who would go vote for him over, well, Rumney and guarantee another 4 years of Zero and 2 or 3 more Kagan and Sooe...Sote...well, however you spell her name saying we have the right to store our muzzleloaders at the police station until hunting season starts.

A 3 way race like that could gag a maggot.

With these choices... ron paul could landslide...

I swear if "none of the above" defaulted to some caretaker solution that could only repeal laws and close or continue current operations; it'd be landslide winner in most elections.

D.W. Drang,

"Bloomberg claims to be a Republican."

No, he only shifted his registration to the GOP in 2001 to avoid the Democratic primary.

He's officially been an "Independent" since 2007.

Bloomberg will Bull Moose the Republicans, his only voter appeal is to liberal Rs in Obama '04 states.

The One will keep his job unless the Rs nominate a genuine fiscal conservative. And they don't have one.

As Ann Coulter says, "when the Republicans nominate a Democrat, the real Democrat always wins."

Can Bloomberg's ego fit inside the Beltway?
