For those who haven't yet seen it, Keads went to a three-day Intensive Maintenance class at the CMP facility in Anniston, Alabama to learn the ins and outs of the US Rifle, Cal. .30, M1, and has been posting photo-laden reviews:
Getting into these classes is tricky, as the available seats for the year tend to fill up within 30 minutes of the course schedule being announced...

Not to mention turning the Web server at CMP into a flaming wreck at 9:00:02 last November =) Even going 7 months out I was put on a waiting list. Sadly my friend Murphy's Law got in on the wait but too far down the list.
Can't say enough about the class. They know of what they speak!
Thanks Tam!
So cool!
ONE of these years... sigh...
Hurry NFO! The COO said that unless there is a bright star in the East and some camel crap in the yard soon they will run out of rifles in 3-5 years!
I just need to order a CMP Garand.
I've got membership in the ISRPA and a certificate from a CMP Clinic (actually a carbine match) right here. I just need to pull the trigger, as it were.
My rather frumpy Blue Sky re-import Springfield is getting lonely...
Tam, Heh. The paperwork is unwieldy yet the old school panache of having a firearm delivered to your house is worth it. I only need one more and I can try out the stacking swivels =)
Service grade CMP rifles are great shooters.
