Since it’s a recent theme in the training community, let me reinforce the principle that going outside your home to confront thieves and other criminals is a bad idea. Stay inside and let them come to you. Conduct a Defense not a Movement to Contact. A military axiom is that the defense has at least a 3 to 1 advantage over the Offense.As has been said several times here at VFTP, heed the advice of the great warrior poet, Chef, from Apocalypse Now: "Never get out of the boat."
Just from talking to detectives who get to respond to a reasonable number of these incidents, it became apparent that even inside the house, the won-loss ratio for people who posted up and waited versus the ones who found themselves in a surprise meeting engagement is much higher.
