Birds


From the sound, I was expecting a woodpecker. (And, I mean, in my defense the little dude was sitting there inverted on the tree and hammering away with his beak.)

Turns out, though, that this is a white-breasted nuthatch.

"The nuthatches are a genus, Sitta, of small passerine birds which derive their English name from the tendency of some species to wedge large insects or seeds into cracks, and then hack at them with their strong bills."

The 12MP Nikon D2X and 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 VR II combo was a little undergunned here.
