Another bows out...

Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina surprised even his campaign staffers last night by announcing that he was suspending his bid for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.

With Mike Pence, that makes two big-name Conservative Quixotes who've ridden their Rocinantes back to the barn after failing to dent the populist windmill.

Normally when a candidate exits a campaign there's a flurry of punditry about which of the remaining contenders they'll throw their support behind, but Pence and Scott's poll numbers have been so tepid that there's a distinct lack of speculation as to who they'll ask their twenty or thirty loyal boosters to rally behind.
