"Can not give car." "Okay, I guess we'll buy 'em."

Like something out of the movie Three Kings, First Sgt. von Zeal thought he'd scored himself a pretty sweet ride for only five grand when he picked up a used '88 Benz 560SEL in the chaotic conditions of Baghdad, circa 2003.

The Customs Department had other ideas.

Unfortunately, he won't get to wow Friday night crowds at the local Sonic with his sled's swoopy built-in flamethrowers now.

His Mercedes was shipped through Jordan and Syria to Greece to Spain before finally arriving in May 2004 in the United States.

Well "his" is a bit in question, but check out that American ingenuity! Jordan, Syria, Greece, Spain, U.S! The sheer audacity!

They ought to let him keep it, and they ought to promote him to Leutenant. (And I wonder what, if anything, was in the trunk?)

Too bad about all the bureaucratic killjoys out there.

Statism: the fear that somebody, somewhere, might be having some kind of fun that they haven't paid the government for.
