Scenic America.

Behold Cadillac Ranch, 20th Century America's answer to Stonehenge and the pyramids. A monument that answers the existential question "Why?" with a definitive "Uh, just because."

Phlegmmy, Goddess of Tchotchkes, and I stopped there on the homeward leg of the vacation and got a picture of Chewie the Purse Wookie with the cars as a backdrop.

Just to be disputatious in a friendly, bloggy sort of way, I would put Carhenge over Cadillac Ranch, as did TJ, having visited the both of them.

...and what a picture-perfect day it was, yes?

I think it's possible for Carhenge and Cadillac Ranch to be equally fabulous, but for me, CR excels the other in that I've actually been there with Tam. And Chewie. [insert Wookie noises here]

It makes me wonder if Stonehenge wasn't really all a joke, like carhenge and CR. A little Druid punk the future humor...

Back in the Old Neolithinc they had a lot of rocks just layin around and developed the habit of piling them up to create monuments to dedad hereos and chiefs - which also happened to clear the fields so they could move onto farming.
Back in the Old 20th Century they had a lot of rusty Cadillacs lying around and the Grad-Students developed the habit of applying for Artistic Grants so they could pile them up - which also had the effect of clearing the full tow-lots for a fresh supply of battery-dead Chevy Volts...
