Pull!

So, after the White House chummed the waters by issuing a staged publicity photo of Obama wielding a stack-barrel yuppie gun while shooting a round of skeet at Camp David with Lennay Kekua, complete with a finger-waving "Do Not Photoshop!" admonition*, the Administration's running dogs and lackeys in the press are expressing astonishment that us Bitter Clingers reacted with skepticism and derision, if not outright disbelief.

Let me ask a question: How many of President Mom Jeans' ardent defenders here were the same ones who were in the middle of the pack baying about those photos of the previous holder of the office swaggering across a carrier deck in a nomex poopie suit? I mean, at least in that case everybody actually saw him get out of the plane...

*Sure thing, Louis XIV, we wouldn't dream of defacing a portrait of Le Roi Soleil...

Whaddaya mean, "Do not Photoshop"? It already is & poorly as well. If you're going to lie to us, at least make an attempt at keeping the lies credible.

The photoshop up at John Richardson's Only Guns and Money is truly priceless. A perfect juxtaposition if there ever was one.

My question is what's up with the second plume of smoke? I assume the barrel is ported, which brings me to a question:

Muzzle Brakes are an evil feature under the new AWB, so if we don't need those, why do we need porting? And why on earth is the president taking advantage of the porting loophole for compensation?

Umm... *insert hand-waving about respect for the hunting traditions of America and some of Michelle's favorite recipes for clay pigeons here*

I'm no expert, but aren't you supposed to shoot the clays while they are in the air?

Not to mention the infamous plastic roasted turkey accusation.

Even with the porting, I don't believe that thing wouldn't have knocked him back on his ass with the stance he was using.

Mocking Prez Mom Jeans for this pic is almost as unfair as punching the fat kid who wears glasses: too easy.

I think people downloaded the pic straight to Photoshop. I'm awaiting one where the shotgun has been turned into a giant bong and some turntables have been added (to explain the "headphones").

It's okay...when I'm POTUS, there will be pictures of me shooting my favorite pistol on steel for funsies (here's a tip folks, get your's early, all steel 9mm made by a 1911 maker in Texas). Then they can release a special "POTUS" edition.

I'm only half joking of course. Seriously, when I am POTUS, I will personally have to make sure that my secret prostitution service agents are better at shooting than I am...Which will be a tough test on those guys.

Oh, so that's what that 2nd amendment thingy is for, so you can bear arms arms to shoot skeet...

By the way, last 'mass shooting' we had in the UK was with a legally held shotgun. I guess the victims of Raoul Moat were glad he wasn't using an assault rifle.

BATFE regs state that a rental weapon which does not leave the premises is not a transfer and therefore no 4473 is required.

He probably got it cheap from Kerry.

If he was shooting skeet, why isn't there a choke tube in the lower barrel? I'm not an expert (because I suck at skeet), but you shoot twice quite often in that game and shooting without a choke tube is just asking for damage to the threads.

The way he was holding the gun, leads me to believe he has alot of shooting experience or the Secret Service taught him how to pose with the weapon.

When I'm Potus, there will be a lot of trips to the Quantico Range. I hope the Secret Service and 8th & I Marines don't mind pulling targets.

Nice O/U...is it BO's? If so, is there a 4473? And if not, and somebody gave it to him, did they do the NICS?

It's probably "owned" by Camp David, and kept there for VIP guests to use. The rumor is that the picture is from a traditional presidential event, and that Barry took his shots, stayed just long enough to say that he was there, and then "couldn't get away fast enough".

I bet he had to stop at the bathroom on the way out to throw up, too.

Camp David is a Federal military station, I imagine the military can own guns without a 4473.

My British buddy is late of the Worcesters and Sherwood Foresters (TA) and several other units in the British Army. He's a fair rifle shot, but he looks askance at shotguns, having had his psyche imprinted early on by Monty Python's "Upper Class Twit of the Year" sketch.

He has this to say on shooting clay pigeons: "I prefer to wait until they land and then blast 'em while they're resting!"

As for the Former Junior Senator from Illinois vs. the former Governor from Texas, we have it on unimpeachable authority that in the latter's case, it wasn't the first time he'd ever found himself in that position.

Not to mention the fact that Bush flew the F-102 Delta Dagger in the Texas ANG, a plane that had a reputation for killing pilots. I was never a fan of G.W., but the shit he got for dodging Vietnam always kind of annoyed me. It wasn't like flying the Delta Dagger was exactly safe, and it's not like Fidel, with the help of his buddy Nikita, wasn't regularly testing US air defenses along the Texas coast. Bush probably stood about as much chance of not coming back from a mission as a conscript did of not coming back from Vietnam.

"For purposes of firearms loan or rental the regs define "premises" as an FFL licensee's "premises".

So who's the FFL there at Camp David?

If the firearm is not on the books of a licensee, I believe we're covered by 18 usc 922(a)(5)(B).

The firearms at Camp David are likely the property of the United State government. Barry could have fired off a spanking new G36 there and it all would have been legal, because it's possessed "under the authority of the United States." Camp David has those guns the same way the FBI and Army have them, and it's not a transfer for people at Camp David to use them.

I was baffled by a reaction I saw on Facebook, along the lines of "this proves those NRA lunatics are liars!".

Not understanding that the disbelief was about the inference/implication that he shot skeet "all the time", not that he'd ever handled a shotgun or never shot skeet even the once.

(In fairness, I never had a problem with what he said, on the grounds that I interpreted the "we" as the general "we" of "the people at Camp David"; I bet lots of people there were shooting skeet, "all the time".

I just don't think he was one of them, or claiming to be - just claiming that He Is Totally Down With Sporting Shooting Because He Sees It Happen, Yo.)

He was shooting Bush's plastic turkey :-P

jetaz said...

See, if I were President, I wouldn't bother shooting skeet at Camp David. I would have the marines install a machine gun and mortar range. If the government is going to pay for the guns and ammo, might was well make em class 3.

Tam said...

"Ah, so your original comment was n/a?"

No, an on-premises loan or rental is not a transfer whether or not the premises is that of a licensee or not. (cf. the .22 range at summer camp.)

You would think that if he were actually skeet-shooting, there would be a wide-angle pic showing a few other people there who could verify his whereabouts on that particular date and time. And shouldn't the skeet-chunker be visible somewhere?

Whatever, the 0bummer is still a lying sack of excrement and I would have to look long and hard at the statement if he were to tell me that the skies are blue.

Tam said...

"Except that by official definition, "premises" is that of a licensee. In a private transaction, whether sale, loan, rental...there is no restriction as to location, and therefore no meaning to the term "premises"."

Yes, there is.

If I let you shoot my rifle on my range in my presence, it has not left my control and therefore no transfer has taken place.

If I say "Here, borrow my rifle and bring it back in a week," that is a transfer of possession, whether I am a licensee or not.

"Just playing defense."

Bullshit. It's not defense when you're the home invader.

Look I realize two things are important to you:

1) Attention, which you need to leech off someone else's blog, and

2) Winning, which is so important that you'll provide both sides of the argument, since straw men are so much easier to beat.

I'd suggest you should be ashamed, but it's plain to see that shame is not a sensation you are equipped to feel.

In the marketplace of ideas, you've broken into someone else's shop, planted counterfeit goods on their shelves, and then called "Fraud!" and are so dishonest with yourself that when everybody else calls you on it, you declare they're somehow in cahoots with the proprietor.

One can only hope that your business practices in meatspace were not so devoid of ethics, but since you seem to be absolutely unaware of your own mendacity, I don't hold out a lot of hope for that.

In a way, I pity you, but I pity even more the people who have to deal with you without the insulation of a thousand miles of fiber optic cable in between.
