Overheard in the Office:

RX: "They're all upset about the NRA sponsoring this NASCAR race; it will come only 'two months after Michael Waltrip memorialized the victims of Newtown'..."

Me: "What does Newtown have to do with anything? It's going to be the NRA sponsoring the race, not the APA."

So, the National Rifle Association should not support sporting events because some genetic reject misused a rifle? What the hell?

Unless the NRA sponsored car is carrying a Ma Deuce, there is nothing to complain about.

I'd complain if the ADA pace car had a MA Deuce, too.

By that "reasoning" automakers and alcoholic beverage distributors ought to withdraw advertising in areas where people have been killed in auto accidents caused by drunk drivers.

Hoplophobic idiots.

Some wag over at arfcom had a great idea: add a few laps and call it the NRA 556.

A Yankee Senator from Connecticut bitchin about the NRA in Texas,I don't think he'll get a lot of traction with NASCAR fans.

Yeah, I bet NASCAR is worried. So many of their audience are whiny, castrated liberals who are "a-skerred" of guns.

Oh wait, no. No, that's not the case.

This is like being worried about the NFL because of beer sponsorships. The fan bases tend to overlap just a tad.

Or for liberals, this is like being worried about NPR because they're taking a patchouli company sponsorship...

Terrible Idea!

It would screw up the down force on the car. You’d need twin .50’s to balance the aerodynamics.

Yeah, but whatever caliber you use, you want it on a Turret. It's a bear driving through the Flaming Wreckage you just created in Front of you. Side and Rear shots are your best bet.

No MGs on the cars, but maybe the officials could have one? A line of tracers would be far more effective than a yellow flag when it comes to settling down the pack.

I think Bill is spot on. The Venn diagram showing overlap between NASCAR enthusiasts and those sympathetic to the National Rifle Association would be darn near a perfect circle. Make another showing NASCAR enthusiasts and "people who give a rat's rear end about what some Massachusetts politician thinks," well, not quite so much.

I would be more concerned with the SKOAL Bandit NASCAR sponsorship in the Winston Cup (now Sprint Cup Series), but then again I never believed that Joe Camel compelled children to take up smoking cigarettes.
