Roboscope 2014

The era of the roboscope appears to be dawning...

Barrett's BORS was on practically every other rifle in Barrett's large and crowded booth.  Capable of correcting for pressure and temperature and programmable for your own load's ballistic data via the USB port and Barrett's software.

The Remington 2020 TrackingPoint is more of a package with its attached gun, from what I can gather. I'm reminded of the old joke (very old, as the numbers will suggest) from professional hunting guides in Africa that "Americans will bring a thousand-dollar rifle with a hundred-dollar scope, while Europeans will bring a hundred-dollar rifle and a thousand-dollar scope." That picture makes those Remingtons look pretty European by that definition.

One of these days, you'll just send Skynet out to shoot Bambi's mom for you.

I've been contemplating drones to scout with.

Now arming them is another kettle of fish.

To carry comparision further the BORS looks like a two pound scope on a twenty-five pound rifle where the "TrackingPoint" looks like a twenty-five pound scope on a two-pound rifle.

More gear to queer over. 10 years from now there will be a $200 made in Korea Bushnell combo that is more compact and works even better.

And I say to myself "what a wonderful world"

Damn. It wasn't more than a month ago I posted what I assumed was a far-out joke about a Remington 700 with a USB port.

I'm scope spoiled.

I started out with a Leupold Vari-X III on my very first rifle bought in 1992.

That makes it hard to deal when some friend wants me to help them zero their deer rig with a sub-$50 off brand on it.

And an Amazon drone will bring it back for you to turn into yummy stuff.

But, will they zero themselves?

Didn't Colonel Cooper mention this in "To Ride, Shoot Straight, and Tell the Truth"? Except his version also automatically pulled the trigger when the target was in the cross hairs.
Maybe that'll be on version 1.1.

I for one welcome electronic alibis. I had about run out of excuses for missing targets on my own .

Windy that's sort of what Tracking Point does.

You line up the target and pull the trigger but the firing pin isn't released until the scope decides alignment is perfect.

I just want one that will find the bugger's for me.

Sounds like Stephen Hunter's ISniper rig from a couple of Bob Lee books ago.

Looks likea a Warner & Swasey design!

I can see it on the Barrett. On the Remington it sort of eliminates the sporting aspect of hunting.

Not this kid. I would not rent someone else's drone to kill dinner .... and if I could afford my own, I'd buy cows instead.

These do-everything-for-you gadgets are SO Gunculture 2.0 .... they run out and buy the latest and greatest widgets as a substitute for learning a skill .... Skills are bough twith time and effort, niether of which can be printed out of thin air by the Fed ....everybody seems to have money these days, yet we have never been poorer ....

Any thoughts to if states will ban these for hunting?

Like staghounds I had a "Warner-Swasey moment" looking at the Rem scope.

And you'll soon be able to watch NetFlix on your riflescope...

So when I google "Skynet killed Bambi" I get a song by punk rockers from 1980 and a German fashion emporium.

Tam, the inside of your head travels comfortably in places mine hasn't even seen on the map.
