More on the gun hobby thing...

From comments in the post at Unc's place:
It would have been funny if it wasn’t so pathetically frickin’ ignorant.

What’s next?

Computers: Not just for hackers anymore.

Not all car collectors are getaway drivers or illegal street racers.

Once thought to be the exclusive domain of pornographers and blackmail artists, photography is actually a hobby for ordinary people, too.

and we mustn't forget:

"pawnshops: the places where dreams die"

oh, yeah, that one was real...in fact it was a front-of-section big, bold headline in "the palm beach post" in 1978.

never mind that the article itself contained only funny and innocent anecdotes about the comings and goings in a day in the life of a pawnbroker...and was accompanied by a big ol' photo of me at an innocent age 24...holding a tray of antique jewelry, and with the gun collection (including one of those evil colt collapsible stock ar's) in the background...and forget about the little detail that the gentleman i managed that shop for had a long and upstanding history in the business and that the colonel (and soon to be chief) of west palm beach police shared lunch at our counter several times a week...

the young and personable "lady" columnist had her headline all picked out before she ever met me, and wasn't about to let the reality of a reputable, pleasant business and businessman get in the way.

that experience was so painful that it hurts to think of it even today...but it was invaluable as a life's lesson learned.

i will argue and fight till my last breath to defend the Constitution including 1A, but that means defending the rights of even those with prior evil intent regardless of the truth and regardless of who is harmed.

i still have that article with photo somewhere...maybe i'll dig it out, scan it, and post it.

and I bought my first gun at a pawnshop. Sold it at one too. Neither profit nor loss in that transaction. Even money.
