The Circle of Life...

So friend Matt tagged me with a meme that he'd picked up from Breda. Which was odd, because I'd actually (and quite inadvertently) started the meme myself. So I'm replying to my own meme.

Here's the candid snapshot of the desk at VFTP Command Central from five days ago. The shot is not posed and nothing is moved. In addition to the snazzy coffee cup with the P-47D Thunderbolt on it, note also the Leatherman Juice and Micra, and the .32 and .38 Smith & Wesson single action top-breaks awaiting their day in the Sunday Smith sun. The piccies in the table tent are Stephanie Seymour and Dennis Leary. It's just some little desk fixture I've had sitting next to my computer since my computer was a 486DX.

Incidentally, the coffee cup actually belongs to my roomie, I've just sort of appropriated it. There's a head-on view of the P-47 on the inside bottom of the mug. Being a southpaw, every time I finish my coffee it looks like some daredevil Francis Gabreski is flying inverted straight at me from the dregs of my java...

Yeah, thought so. Could have sworn that Oleg's action pics of you with your 1911 show just that.

Musta been a bitch to unlearn the dominant hand tendencies.

All my life I've done pretty much everything except writing and eating with my right hand.

It's a rightie's world out there, and it's made me pretty much functionally ambidextrous. So much so that when a friend gave me a pair of left-handed Fiskars recently, they felt so weird that I could hardly make use of them...

Im so old that when i first went to school being left handed was regarded as the sign of the Devil and was made to sit with my left hand behind my back and write with my right hand,to this day still write right handed but played most racket sports with either hand throw with either hand can use a pistol right handed if i have to but cannot shoot a rifle right handed not that shooting a pistol is something we can do here in the UK any more.

imagine a soundtrack of that t-bolt as he bottoms his powerloop straight at you; that'd wake your ass up like a tripleshot of caffeine...(don't know if those flying tanks could do that; mustangs maybe?).

deskful of functional mechanical art and a pinup of leary, huh...yeah i can see that.

Isn't that Leatherman Micra just amazingly handy?

how funny - I glanced at the picture and thought "wow! Tam has a Juice and a Micra too!" I had to have the Micra when I saw those evil little scissors. Good stuff.

Kinda off the subject, but yes, and I also like their squirt™, amazingly handy, though I don't care for Tim Leatherman's typical politics.

I, too, noticed the multitools first, noting that they equaled the number of firearms;)

A Leary fan. I should have known. The Lord of the Snark himself! Nice.

I'm left handed, but have to do some things right handed. Shooting is not one of them - I mean, you really have to shoot with the dominant eye regardless of handedness.

The mug reminds me of the time I was in a mug shop, picked up a mustache mug, and said "Hey, this is a left handed mug!" The shop keeper thought I was joking until I showed him that the bar was only properly placed if you held the mug in the left hand. He spent a minute staring at it, shifting it from hand to hand, then said "Huh... that must be why they aren't selling."

I had to buy one after that.

Tam,
You might find this book interesting: "The Left-Hander Syndrome" by Stanley Coren. Lots of info on sidedness, ie: eyes, ears, feet, and hands. Some controversy in some of his conclusions, but overall a very detailed study. Published in '92. He is more famous for his many books on dogs, it seems.(Google had ten hits for this book, vs 190 for dogs)

Why Stephanie Seymour?

Dates back to when I was taking a half-hearted stab at modeling; I thought she was cool. I was also young enough to not think someone was an idiot for dating Waxl.
